Road Closure – Advance Notice

Since there are at least 8 vehicles ‘Parked’ on Market Street which do not comply with the ‘Parking Regulations’ maybe the owners would be considerate enough for this advance notice.

B1040 Thorney to Whittlesey Road to the South of the River Nene

Flooding is expected – immediate action required

The Whittlesey Wash flood storage reservoir is being operated to protect nearby communities from flooding. The rising levels in the Wash resulted in the flooding of the B1040 road, which is likely to continue until at least Friday 3rd January. No further significant rainfall is forecast over the next few days. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority may close the B1040 for safety reasons. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

Flood Warning Still In Effect…Tues 31st Dec

As per yesterday’s message…Flood Warning for B1040 Thorney Road still in effect.
Whilst I was there some 30+ vehicles came to see if the road was open, turned around immediately and went off – As many (me included) we do not always believe the signage…
However recently it has been correct.
Photo taken @ 10:00am this morning….

I thought I would include this press story sent to me…considering some 200+ houses are planned to be built at The Showfields site on the B1040
I have experienced similar to the below story…

Comparison websites are adding hundreds of pounds to home insurance bills for some households, according to a new study.
Consumer group Which? said that households risk paying up to £414 more for their home insurance because the sites are not asking all the right questions.

The group tested three homes on various comparison sites, and found that customers faced being charged too much. But they could also be undercharged, potentially leaving households with an invalid policy or insufficient cover.

It’s imperative…..that people read these documents – carefully to make sure there aren’t any mistakes…(GoCompare)

Price comparison sites ask questions when trying to show customers the cheapest deals on the market. However, these questions do not always match up with what the insurers themselves ask.
“Which? found substantial differences between the sets of questions asked by the four major comparison sites that could leave insurers relying on assumptions about customers,” the group said.

“The research uncovered four false assumptions that pushed the test premiums up significantly.”
The biggest culprit was floods, the study found. When a site only asks if a home has been flooded before, not when, the insurers assume it happened with the past five or 10 years. This pushed up one of the quotes to around £704 from £291.
Comparison sites are designed to save us time and money, so it’s concerning to see that using one could leave people paying more than necessary or taking out cover that isn’t suitable for their needs,” said Jenny Ross, editor of Which? Money.

“To make sure you’re getting the right price, be sure to compare different routes for buying your insurance, shop around every year, and always double check that the information the insurer has about you is totally accurate and complete to avoid being stung further down the line.”
Meanwhile, two sites did not let users say when their house was empty over the weekend. This artificially pushed down prices, by as much as £98 in one case.

“It’s imperative, whether someone has used a comparison website, a broker or gone direct to an insurer, that people read these documents carefully to make sure there aren’t any mistakes,” said GoCompare, promising to investigate the anomalies Which? raised.

Compare the Market suggested that customers should always tell their insurer directly if they have exceptional circumstances.
MoneySuperMarket said it works “closely with insurers to ensure the information we ask for will enable them to provide customers with a complete quote”.

Confused.com said it regularly reviews the questions it asks customers.

Flood Warning B1040 & North Bank Still in Effect Fri 27th @ 09:58am

The Whittlesey Wash flood storage reservoir is being operated to protect nearby communities from flooding. River levels remain high on the River Nene. High levels are likely to continue throughout Friday, December 27th. During periods of high tide the river will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding at North Bank Road. Whilst the Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

A Very Merry Christmas – A Happy and Prosperous New Year

This year Connie & I decided to cut-back on the number of Christmas Cards we send.
I normally start buying, when marketed in July – it is not necessary the cost of Charity Cards – it is the postage that has become the issue.
So yes ‘we’ have sort of cut back and I am pleased to say ‘we’ donated in lieu to 3 Local Charities here in Whittlesey and ‘we’ have bought 100 tree’s for The Woodland Trust to be planted in England by Community Groups.

Time to enjoy the spirit of Christmas, Connie & I wish you all a ‘Peaceful and Merry Christmas – A Prosperous and Healthy New Year.
