I am but a poor demoted ‘Litterpicker’ these days, however having attended this weeks Emergency General Meeting, I have to comment and agree with Michael W, in that in the past few years, many of the group have become ‘very unhappy’ with how things are run and its direction.
I am no longer (and do not wish to be) part of their committee, I was chairman for 6 or 7 years when ‘we appeared’ to be a much happier and focused group, which not only cleared up ‘Tons’ of Litter & Rubbish, but delievred some ‘cracking’ Gateway projects most of which are still here today.
I am not even going into the current and what appears forward issues with some of the group (right or wrong) …. but what I/we must not forget – We are ALL Volunteers.

Cambridgeshire County Council has confirmed that major progress has been made on repair work at the King’s Dyke embankment on the A605 Ralph Butcher Causeway near Whittlesey, with more than 680 soil nails now installed as part of the extensive ground stabilisation programme.
In its latest update, published on 22 October, the council said the soil nailing operation on the main embankment is complete, with work now focused on two adjoining areas.
Crews are also continuing to install drainage pipes and the steel reinforcement that will support the sprayed concrete facing — the crucial outer layer designed to hold the embankment firm for decades to come.
The soil nailing and concrete reinforcement phases are key to ensuring the long-term stability of the embankment.
Once the soil nailing and sprayed concrete phases are complete, the embankment will undergo a three-month settlement period before final resurfacing and the full reopening of both lanes — expected in early 2026.

Local councillors have urged patience, emphasising that the repairs are necessary to ensure long-term stability. Fenland Council leader Cllr Chris Boden has called for continued accountability from contractors, adding that the works will ultimately “deliver a permanent solution that protects public investment.”
Traffic monitoring continues daily, with engineers inspecting the embankment and managing the lane closure to keep disruption to a minimum.

Cllr Chris Boden, a town and district councillor, has called on Cambridgeshire County Council’s highways department to consider reopening the King’s Dyke crossing, which was closed over major safety concerns.
Cllr Boden informed members of Whittlesey Town Council that all the major structural work to repair the King’s Dyke crossing known as the Ralph Butcher Causeway on the A605 has been completed.
He told this month’s council meeting that the remaining work is not linked to structural safety, and therefore, he believes it would be sensible if the county council were to agree to open the bridge to two-way traffic once more.

This morning a small group of our ‘Friends of Platinum Wood’ planted some 800+ daffodil bulbs and 200+ snowdrops around the ‘bund’ area.
Platinum Wood is a Whittlesey Town Council initiative and project, it a 4 acre green space at the end of Yarwell Headlands, maintained primarily by Cllr Eamonn Dorling with a few volunteers, the area is being developed into a very nice space, to walk, rest and relax.

Peterborough Concert Band have been supporting The Whittlesey Branch of The Royal British Legion for 26 or maybe 27 years, no one can quite remember, an excellent evening
had by all, and some good fund raising for the local branch.
