A flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood warning in force: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

Flooding is expected for: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the West of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

High river levels are expected to cause flooding this evening.

Flooding is expected from the evening of 01 February 2026.

No further rainfall is forecast, but river levels remain high. During periods of high tide, the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding of the North Bank Road, between Peterborough and Rings End. Whilst this Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.
We are closely monitoring the situation.

A good turnout at this location with twenty members attending, picking a total of 39 bags of rubbish. Eamonn and Rob contributed 8 bags plus Chris collected another 8 bags also elsewhere. Well done to all concerned.

A new platform for engagement.

The Environment Agency has created a new Engagement HQ (EHQ) page to host information on operations within Saxon Pit in Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire.
We will share ideas and raise questions with other regulating bodies such as Cambridgeshire County and Fenland County Councils to develop further understanding of issues and concerns from the residents.
We will work on frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) and answer them in a timely manner and add any relevant documents and photographs associated with these operations.

We are opening this page and it’s resources to regulators, stakeholders and the public. We hope that by working with you, and those you are representing, we can further enhance and develop the content.

We will be making this page available in January 2026.

There will be times when the page will be withdrawn for updates, but we will inform you all when these will take place. We are currently waiting for the permit for discharge consent. As soon as it is available, it will be placed on the right side of the page together with a public briefing note.

Wally Newman, who turned 100 on Christmas Eve, put his long life down to a daily banana.
A centenarian who puts his longevity down to a daily breakfast banana is to be honoured in his hometown for a life of “remarkable service and commitment”.
Wally Newman will receive the Freedom of Whittlesey, the Cambridgeshire town where he has lived since 1990.

Saturday 31st January.

Wally’s family & friends and members of Whittlesey RBL (Royal British Legion)
will be in attendance, (RBL are to provide a Flag Party).
Members of the press and other local dignitaries are also to be invited.
