A public consultation on the future regeneration of a Fenland station has been extended by a month following concerns about the way it was being conducted.
Former Fenland councillor Elisabeth Sennitt-Clough raised concerns with Fenland’s chief executive, Paul Medd, over the use of SurveyMonkey for the consultation launched on January 5 on the future of Whittlesea railway station.
She said: “SurveyMonkey is not the best mechanism for statutory consultations for infrastructure projects.

Paul Bristow as Mayor.
“Whittlesey, the town I grew up in,” he recently posted to social media.
“My dad was a Whittlesey town councillor and enhancing the station was something he was passionate about,” he said.
“Here is our £3 million opportunity to realise this. But we need your help – and your views. Please make your voice heard and tell us what you think needs to happen at the station”.
Former councillor Elisabeth Sennitt-Clough raised concerns, pointing out: “SurveyMonkey is not designed for statutory consultations.
It doesn’t provide robust audit trails or ensure evidential-grade data verification. It also raises accessibility and compliance concerns, being a non-UK platform.”

Fenland District Council responded by extending the consultation to March 1, 2026, allowing residents to resubmit feedback.
How to have your say.
The consultation runs until March 1, 2026. Residents and commuters can participate by:
A great deal of concerns for many years, allowing operator(s) to discharge without permit or testing in place…..only by lobbying by myself and primarily one resident + Saxongate, this latest and hopefully with rigorous monitoring and testing, the public may be confident that all saftey regarding any discharges are upheld.
Below – from The Environment Agency (EA)
We have been finalising the Discharge Permit for East Midlands Waste Management (EMWM) to ensure there are robust conditions in place to keep this discharge safe and compliant. I am now writing to let you know that the Discharge Permit has been finalised and will be issued today.
This has taken longer than we would have liked to finalise due to the complexity of the regulation requirements, however we are confident that the regulation of this permit will be robust enough to prevent an impact to the environment. It will enable closer monitoring of the discharge and gives us greater powers to stop the discharge if there is evidence of environmental harm. This approach should give the local community assurance that this activity is being appropriately regulated and monitored. You can read more about our approach in the attached briefing.
The briefing will be shared with the community and other interested parties, and we will ensure that we provide updated information about our regulation of Saxon Pit operators on our Engagement HQ site which is now available to the wider public:
