News From The ONS…..

Today, we published the latest data on topics ranging from antibody positivity and vaccination rates to mortality rates by religion, as well as online job adverts and recorded crime during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The main points on infections and deaths include:

  • An estimated 69.3% of adults in the community population in England, 63.2% in Wales, 63.5% in Northern Ireland and 59.2% in Scotland would have tested positive for antibodies to the coronavirus (COVID-19) in the week beginning 19 April 2021.
  • In the week same week, we estimate between 61.9% and 73.0% of the UK population had received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with between 23.8% and 35.3% of adults having received both doses.
  • During the pandemic, people in England identifying as Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, or Jewish had higher age-standardised mortality rates (ASMRs) for deaths involving COVID-19 than those identifying as Christian.
  • People identifying as “no religion” had lower ASMRs than the Christian group, as did women who identify as “other religion”.

The main points on jobs include:

  • UK online job adverts for “catering and hospitality” roles were above pre-pandemic levels, at 103% of their February 2020 average on 7 May 2021.
  • According to Adzuna, the volume of online job adverts for catering and hospitality has increased by 46 percentage points since 9 April 2021, a strong upward trend coinciding with the recent easing of hospitality restrictions.

The main points on crime include:

  • Recorded crime in England and Wales fell by 8% in the 12 months to December 2020, driven by substantial reductions during coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown restrictions.
  • Approximately 5.6 million offences were recorded, with reductions in most crime types – including a 26% fall in theft offences.
  • However, the number of domestic abuse-related offences recorded by police rose by 7% compared with 2019. A 15% rise in drug offences reflected proactive police activity in crime hotspots during lockdown.

Vandalism @ Play Area’s In/Around Whittlesey

There has been a spate of vandalism at several play area’s in/around the Whittlesey area.
Today I had a meeting with the Managers of Parks and Open Spaces.

As some maybe aware, Whittlesey Town Council and Whittlesey Street Pride are in advanced stages of being able to replace ALL the Picnic Benches in the Manor Field.

The present ones are getting old and need maintaining, some have been vandalised and removed.
The ‘plan’ is to install 8 in total (including 2 access/disabled friendly) fully Recycled British Plastic Picnic Benches later this year.
Street Pride and myself have spend a considerable amount of time in getting funding for this project.
Todays meeting was to agree on the exact locations.
Given the recent vandalism to the play area’s – it would be a great pity if anything should happen to these Benches once installed.
This is a one time opportunity and I doubt if funding would be available again for some considerable time…..

We have some of the best play equipement in the area, as the success recently at the Snowley Park play area has demonstrated.
Please, I ask that this equipment and all our play equipment be looked after.

Below ;- British Recycled Plastic (2,000 plastic bottles/per bench), British made.
Prices does not inc VAT or installation costs…

New Online Safety Bill

Cambridgeshire Police Fraud and Cyber Security

Yesterday, details of the new Online Safety Bill were announced in Westminster. Of particular note to me as the Fraud and Cyber Security Advisor, was the following:

Technology firms will have to take responsibility for fraudulent user-generated content, including financial fraud such as romance scams or fake investment opportunities.
(Sky News)
It is not clear exactly what this means, but it does appear to be a significant legal step forward to help protect local people from online crime especially fraud.

Further details are available from www.gov.uk

Already in the UK, we have the ability to forward suspicious communications, to those who can take action to try and disrupt the criminal by removing their fake webpages, and denying their telephone numbers access to the national network.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Against Scams Partnership coordinated by the County Council, already does an excellent job to help protect local communities from scams, so combine that with the new Online Safety Bill and the national reporting for scam communications then we can only be moving further forward to help protect local people from the impact of fraud. And of course, if you forward or post any of my alerts or those of CAPASP to your family, friends or community groups, then I thank you.

Suspicious email forward to report@phishing.gov.uk
Suspicious text forward to 7726

With thanks
Nigel

Scam – Scam – Yes – Someone’s Been Scammed – Whittlesey

I do get quite a lot of Scam information and statistics, but this latest one was one of our own Neighbourhood Watch  Co-ordinators, who has had Scam awareness training.
The perpetrator(s) of Scams can be anywhere in the world, phone numbers look real, mostly convincing english and very convincing, as there were in this elaborate case.
Over £600 disappeared within a few minutes, fortunately they contacted their Bank and realised what had happened.
So many times I’ve posted various scam scenerios – it is so, so easy to fall victim of this type of crime and the chances of the Police catching them is very remote, as I have said, could be anywhere……

Todays update…..
