National Tree Week From 18th September

It is such a great shame that we have lost so many tree’s and here in Fenland there is very little enthusiasm for any small/medium re-planting – plenty of ‘talking’ – Whittlesey Town Council has recently been given 5 Japanese Cherry Tree’s from MP Stephen Barclay and will be planted hopefully soon.
Connie & I will be planting 6 more tree’s through our donations to The Woodland Trust.

Beware Of Cold Callers

We’re warning people to be vigilant after cold callers targeted an elderly and vulnerable woman who then paid more than £1000 for unnecessary work.

The woman was called by a ‘home savings’ company offering boiler services, citing better energy efficiency and a £500 saving.

She was then quoted a price of £1,200 for a boiler flush, and was visited at her home in Peterborough by men who hit her radiators with hammers and showed her bottles supposedly containing dirty remnants/water from the radiators.

The woman was then presented with a card machine and paid the money.

As the colder part of the year approaches, please remain wary of similar calls and remember if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If you aren’t expecting to hear from a salesperson or business, be cautious of your dealings with them. Do not feel pressured into handing over money or bank account details to pay for a product or service that you weren’t planning to buy before they called or arrived at your door.

For more advice and information on fraud and cold callers, visit the force’s dedicated web pages by clicking here.

Thank you,
Tara Cox, Corporate Communications

Yes – We Have Been Part Of It….Connie & I….The Solution

I’m Emma Rourke and I lead the Health Analysis and Pandemic Insight team here at the Office for National Statistics.

Together, in collaboration with the University of Oxford and Professor Sarah Walker, Chief Investigator for the survey, and the Department of Health and Social Care, we are responsible for the COVID-19 Infection Survey.

I would like to begin with a huge thank you for your continued participation in the CIS. Without the critical information you provide from your swab and blood tests, the Government would not have had the evidence to make key decisions over the past year. And it is the data you provide to us which will continue to help us navigate infections into the winter and ahead to next year.

With restrictions having eased and social lives returning, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the CIS is winding down, or the data from the survey is of less use than at the height of the pandemic a few months ago.

In fact, the survey is more vital than ever. Every single person taking part in this study – and there are over 400,000 of you – is critically important to our picture of the nation.

As more of the UK population get vaccinated, tracking the impact of the vaccines, and the protection they give against catching the virus, reducing the severity of infection and onward transmission is a key priority. We need to continue to learn as much as possible about COVID-19 infection and antibody levels in the community population.

By continuing to participate you are providing essential information about how long antibodies remain in our bodies after vaccination. This will contribute to government decisions about whether or not ‘booster’ shots are needed.
Ultimately your data will support the roadmap to recovery for the UK.

We don’t underestimate the effort you continue to make, which is why I would like to personally thank you for your support.

COVID Updates

Government advice…..

Coronavirus remains a serious health risk. It’s important to stay cautious and help protect yourself and others. In England:

  • Meet up outside or if you’re indoors open windows or doors if you have visitors.
  • If you think you might have COVID-19 symptoms, take a PCR test and stay home.
  • Wear face coverings in crowded places to help protect others.
  • Check in with the NHS COVID-19 app when you’re out.
  • Wash your hands regularly and for at least 20 seconds with soap.
  • Get vaccinated if you are 18 or over.

From 16 August, people fully vaccinated or under 18 will not need to self-isolate after close contact with someone who has COVID-19. You’ll still need to take a PCR test and self-isolate if it’s positive, or if you have symptoms.

Further advice and guidance on Coronavirus (COVID-19) and what you need to do is available on the GOV.UK website.
