Fraud & Cyber Crime
Today, whilst covering for the Town Clerk, I was visited by a gentleman who wished to report he had been a victim of cyber fraud. On asking some details, it appears this started last week and he had lost several thousand £. I asked ‘why’ he had only just decided to report it to someone, which he had very little to say.
The Police in general do not get involved, however any reporting should be done ASAP on finding out to the Bank/Building Society concerned and then report online to https://www.actionfraud.police.uk/
I advised the gentleman to go to his Bank in Peterborough straight away.

Cambridgeshire Police Cyber Security – New public reporting service for scam websites
You may already be aware, that you can report suspicious emails by forwarding them to the national Suspicious Email Reporting Service. (SERS) report@phishing.gov.uk
For suspicious text messages, you can forward them to 7726.
Since last month, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has launched an additional tool called the scam website reporting service that allows the public to send them a link from websites which they think are trying to scam them.
If the investigation concludes that the website is malicious, then the NCSC can issue a notice to the host requesting that the website is removed so that it becomes inaccessible to others.
Fake websites are used by criminals to advertise cheap goods and services such as holidays and electronic goods that do not exist. Or, they will put the link to the fake website into a range of phishing communications such as; email, text, social media.
For more information on how to report suspicious websites, visit:
Public can now report scam websites direct to the NCSC – NCSC.GOV.UK
any questions or concerns that are non-urgent then please contact me.
Regards
Nigel

The BIG BASH – Fantastic Event
What more can be said, a BIG thanks to Robert Windle and his ‘team’ of volunteers (including myself in a small way), made today an excellent day out for all.
No pictures as far too much going on.
The Golden Age Fair went well and our ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ team had some intrest in several initiatives we have including the Good Dog Walkers Scheme.
Who knows, with the success of yesterdays Coates Village Fete and todays event, maybe they will become annual events…..

On This Day – 20 Years Ago So Close But So Far Away
9/11/2011 the day the world changed. Terrorist attacks using 4 aircraft to destroy buildings in the US. I was on a ship entering the Naval Dry-Docks in Baltimore (MA), within minutes the whole of the vast naval yards were under lock-down. It was less than 200 miles to New York and only about 40 miles to Washington where the Pentagon was under attack.
Our – Drydocking went ahead with some delays, but there were very strick protocols getting off the ship and in/out of the facilities. I only went ashore twice in the two weeks we were there.

A Good Time Had By All – Almost
A good time had by all, except for the idiot thowing a ‘wellington’ around, could have hit a child easily. Everyone else was there for a good social get-together. Congratulations to the organisers of this years ‘Coates Village Fete’ which brought back happy memories of years past. The weather stayed warm and dry.
