A Salty Story – Jack Bell – Survivor

Today I had the great pleasure of meeting Ex 3rd Engineer Jack Bell, who came to visit me here in Whittlesey.
Jack was the 3rd Engineer on the London Valour when it floundered off Genoa in 1970.
We spent agood 5 hours (some in Wetherspoons) catching up with many names and memories of the 1970’s.
Jack – now well into his 70’s he well and lives in St Ives (Huntingdonshire).

Is The Youth Club About To Be Regenerated !

At last evenings Community Focus Group meeting….Youth Club

Whittlesey are ‘asking’ for a Youth Club for somewhere to go…!!!!

I attended the very last meeting, (some years ago) when Youth Services and Councillors
(2 of us) tried to keep the Whittlesey Youth Club open, some 60 or so parents were invited  – None that’s
Zero – turned up. The Youth Club closed down.
There is a new Community Based Group, The Whittlesey Community Focus Group, which I am a member of and includes other Councillors, Cambs CC and Health Services amongst some.

They have carried out a recent survey (limited numbers) this is being looked into, of course it will need funding and a shed full of ‘Risk Assessments’ and others concerns – so it is someway off I would imagine.

Public Toilets – Whittlesey

The public toilets behind ‘The George’ have been out of service for some considerable time.
Councillors have been and are still very much on the case.
As on previous occasions when damage and/or vandalism was carried out – it took a very long (and unacceptable) time to get the repairs done.
‘We’ have been promised that work to repair the toilets will start next week.
(The Disabled Toilet has been in full operation)

The picture below shows damage to one of the toilets and was probably caused by water ingress. The other two toilets suffered the same effect but not to the same extent of damage.
