A real wonderful day out at the National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield.

The British Merchant Navy is very well supported and some 2535 Oak Trees that have been planted, one for every Merchant Ship and Fishing Vessel lost during the 2nd World War.

A wonderful memorial and tribute to all armed and supporting services during many campaigns.

A Powerful and Moving Look At The Aftermath of A Fatal Collision

Fatal collisions are an all-too-common tragedy on the county’s roads.

But how are they dealt with by police and what is the impact on those nearest and dearest to the victims?

A podcast that answers those questions has received nearly 2,000 listens since it was released as part of our Cambs Cops: Our Stories series in August.

It sets the words of experienced road policing officer Mark Dollard alongside those of Claire Danks, whose 22-year-old daughter Lauren was killed in an horrific crash caused by a drink driver in 2016.

Mark explains the mental processes that allow him take the emotion and confusion out of what can be devastating scenes, while Claire bravely recollects the moments when she first became aware something wasn’t right.

She goes on to speak movingly about the impact of the loss, which felt like someone “dropping a bomb” on her family. And she makes a heartfelt plea to anyone else considering getting behind the wheel while over the limit.

Listen to the podcast here and browse others, including those on domestic abuse, sexual offenders and the dog unit, here.

Ottermans Corner

Most will have noticed the reintroduction of Traffic Signals on The Ottermans Corner with Market Street/Broad Street.
I understand that they will be there for weeks rather than days, whilst work is carried out on the building.

No Planned Booster COVID Jabs @ NQS

During a recent meeting at New Queen Street Surgery, the practice was asked whether they would be taking part in the forthcoming booster vacination program.
It was stated they would not be taking part, as they are concentrating on getting both NQS and Stanground back running to some normality.

With the rollout of the Booster Jab program – those who are eligible.

I have no information as whether The Jenner Health Centre is taking part.

False/Fake Post On Facebook This Week.

It looks like I will be the only ‘platform’ to counter the very damaging false/fake post on a Whittlesey Facebook site by a Mrs Smith on behalf of her daughter.

I am not going into all the specific details, but serious allegations were made in respect of New Queen Street Surgery’s handling of the case/incident.

Mrs Smith has made false and misleading allegations, when I and others became aware on Wednesday evening of the post, we were also concerned that ‘if’ true’ then there were potential failing at NQS.
The incident was looked into by the Practice Manager, who has access to all voice recordings of telephone conversations.

Without breaking any patient confidentiality he has stated that the comments made by Mrs Smith are not true.

This has caused severe ‘Trolling’ by people who I would have hoped would know better – but it hasn’t and this and similar false statements about NQS does not instill confidence in the practice or its staff.

If Mrs Smith allegations were true there is a very rubust system in place to make complaints – and not on allegations posted on Facebook.

I hope that I have gone someway to clear up this mess…..

If anyone has any questions I am more than happy to be contacted.

A Salty Story – Jack Bell – Survivor

Today I had the great pleasure of meeting Ex 3rd Engineer Jack Bell, who came to visit me here in Whittlesey.
Jack was the 3rd Engineer on the London Valour when it floundered off Genoa in 1970.
We spent agood 5 hours (some in Wetherspoons) catching up with many names and memories of the 1970’s.
Jack – now well into his 70’s he well and lives in St Ives (Huntingdonshire).
