EV Charging @ WTC Peel House Update

There has been some unwarrented comment(s) about the |Electric Vehicle Charging Points|at Whittlesey Town Council.
This history has been well documented here previously on several occasions and I am not repeating this yet again.
It would appear that the EV points fitted were for domestic usage and not for commercial or continuous use and that is probably why they have burnt out/become unreliable.
The Council has received a quote to replace both EV Chargers with a modern more rebust system and we await a second quote.
It will then go to the Fiinance & Policy Committee of WTC for debate/discussion/and a proposed decision for the Full Council to decide, this will be done in July.

RIP Chris Dunham – A Woderful, Kind, Lady

A neighbour and friend of many around the corner from us in Briggate Crecent, passed away recently, Connie & I attended her funeral in March today.
A nearly full church with an extended program (Chris was a devoted Christian).
A NHS Nurse throughout her life, gave so much to so many, she will be missed.
RIP Chris.

Another Fantastic Group of Volunteers

Last night myself and Cllr Kay Mayor attended the Scaldgate Club AGM at St Andrews Parish Hall.
The Scaldgate Club helps and supports adults with learning difficulties with Whittlesey and meet every Thursday evening.
As with many voluntary organisations it has been a tough time going through the 2 years of the COVID pandemic.
Up on their feet again and hopefully supported by several orgaisations within our town.

Electric Vehicle Charging Points – WTC

As part of the renovations when the Town Council purchased the Old Police Station, a set of 2 EV points were installed along with a Solar Aray on the roof.
Unfortunately within a relatively short period they have become unreliable.
One point – a customers charging lead has melted within the socket (unsure what casued this) and the second point is forever tripping out.
It has become too costly having a qualified electrician reset the device and therefor a decision has been taken to have them both switched off for the time being.
A quotation has been received to replace them and this will be considered by the Finance and Policy Committee at their next meeting.

As I reported a few weeks ago – there has been some abuse thrown at the Town Clerk because some people were leaving their vehicles connected for 12+ hours.

Appeal following vandalism in Whittlesey

We are appealing for members of the public to come forward with information following a spate of vandalism in Whittlesey.

Over the past few weeks, trees and benches have been vandalised in the town, with one plastic four-seater picnic bench being burnt to ashes.

Newly-planted trees have also been stripped and branches pulled off.

The vandalism has taken place across the town, with damage caused in the Manor, St Mary’s Church Yard, Yarwells Headlands and Burdett Grove.

Your local Neighbourhood Policing Team are doing extra patrols in the areas affected and are appealing for members of the community to come forward with any information about who might be responsible.

Anyone with information should call 101 quoting crime reference number 35/38975/22. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, online or on 0800 555111.

Manor Field

May I thank everyone who has offered support in respect of the recent events mainly but not exclusive to our Whittlesey Manor Field.

I was invited this morning to speak about the issues on Fenland Youth Radio.
Myself and host Robert Windle covered a lot of ground between 9 and 10.

One of the idea’s he has suggested is ‘Friends of The Manor’ group.
I will be looking into this in conjuction with our Town Council and other partners.

Just to make it clear – This will NOT be a vigilante group.

The Whittlesey Manor Field is a fantastic ‘asset’ to town and should be celebrated as such.
We must not be put off by a small group of mindless individuals.

A thanks also to the Fenland Cleansing team for clearing up all the debis and rubbish associated with last weeks vandalism.
