Latest Issues @ Snoots Estate & Saxon Area’s

Last week, lots of reports from a wide area of Priors Road/Saxon & Snoots.
Residents having ‘Dust’ issues, some were having to clean there windowsills twice a day and some were reporting breathing issues.

I do not know where this ‘Dust’ is orginating from..but this issue would come under the remit of Fenland District Council – Environmental Services, and I would encourage anyone having issues to report it to them. Do not collect samples yourself, they have to be done in the correct way.
Some people are suggesting the Particulate Matter(s) are becoming a concern and here in Whittlesey it is not being monitored at this time.

  • Particulate Matter (PM) is a mixture of solid and liquid particles that are suspended in the air. These are categorized into coarse, fine and ultrafine. PM2.5 are fine particles that have a diameter less than 2.5 micrometers (more than 100 times thinner than a human hair) and remain suspended in the air for longer durations. The health risk with PM2.5 is that they can travel deep into the respiratory tract, reaching the lungs and entering the blood stream.
  • PM2.5 is used when describing pollutant levels both outdoor and indoor, where health impact from exposure considers amount of PM2.5 over a 24-hour period. Most studies indicate PM2.5 at or below 12 μg/m3 is considered healthy with little to no risk from exposure. If the level goes to or above 35 μg/m3 during a 24-hour period, the air is considered unhealthy and can cause issues for people with existing breathing issues such as asthma. Prolonged exposure to levels above 50 μg/m3 can lead to serious health issues and premature mortality.
  • Exposure to fine particles can also affect lung function and worsen medical conditions such as asthma and heart disease. Scientific studies have linked increases in daily PM2.5 exposure with increased respiratory and cardiovascular hospital admissions, emergency department visits and deaths.

I have taken PM reading around town with a basic PM monitor, this only gives a ‘snapshot’ of readings, for example I had it with me at the Music on The Square event for some 5 hours and the maximum it read was 8 μg/m3

What has been requested is that FDC carry out a proper long term test from fixed sites and try and establish where the dust is coming from?

Beware Of Malware?

Malware (short for “malicious software”) is a file or code, typically delivered over a network, that infects, explores, steals or conducts virtually any behavior an attacker wants. And because malware comes in so many variants, there are numerous methods to infect computer systems.

Oh Dear -Dear-Dear (Again)

Last week as the Town Clerk is on her holidays, some of us Councillors have been
covering the Office whilst she is away. There are 3 of us that do this in order that the Public have access by phone or in person, 5 days a week 09:30 to 13:00 + we open and close the Council Chanber for the many Community Groups..

Last week I did 3 days – and the hot topic with its more than fair share of Abuse was about the Electric Charging Points not working.
As I have explained here last week the history and the posibble way ahead and repeated to all those who contacted me and other Councillors.
It is now becoming somewhat tedious to say the least – most ‘appear’ to think this ‘FREE’ access is their right.

Dear Sir or Madam
I am disappointed that the EV Chargers outside your offices in Whittlesey are not operating.
As I understand it is a legal obligation for the council to provide these chargers so it would appear the council is breaking the law in not keeping them working. Please rectify immediately. Regards

Councillor Darren Rodwell, transport spokesperson for the Local Government Association, responded to the study, saying: ‘Councils are not responsible for the provision of electric vehicle charge points. ‘Each place is different and each council will make spending decisions according to their local priorities.

Some Whittlesey Town Councillors are now of the opinion, that either there will be a charge to use the EV points (As in most places) or if the cost to replace them is expensive – then they may not be replaced….

LHI Plans For Eastrea & Church Street

Every year, Whittlesey Town Council can put forward Local Highway Improvement suggestions (x2) + The County Councillors can put one forward.
Whether it be, a new or extended path, road safety enhancements or double yellow lines.
In most cases Councillors bid because of how they have been lobbied over the past year.
Some years there are 4 or 5 put forward of which only two are then shortlisted.
There are consultation periods and residents living close by a proposed LHI will get a letter asking for them to comment.
Below are the (2) revised LHI’s – One for Eastrea and one for Church Street.

Once Again The Doomsters Have Got It Wrong

This spring – Fenlands Horticultural Officer decided along with many other authorities in Engand to promote NO MOW Zones and plant wild flowers, when a large patch (The Bog) was left unmowed in our Manor Field —
‘Cor Blimey’ did the usual Bemoaners let rip.

I would hope that most having watched this beautiful meadow come to maturity that it looks fantastic – and a wonderful asset to the local bio-diversity.

Yes – some Kids (whoops careful) were asked not to run over it on more than one occasion.

Here is the proof – my thanks to Robin S….
