Other Countries Can Do It – Why Can’t We… Recycle

Our UK (Enland & Wales) government always appear to be so-so slow in introducing better recycling facilities, I have been campaigning for over 20 years about cans, bottles plastics and polystyrene – bent MP Barclays ears on a number of occasions (mainly deaf ears that is) – the latest I’ve found in most shopping centres in Malaysia as shown in this photo.
Now to be fair, I didn’t see a line of people waiting to deposit their recycles for goodies, but it is a good start, most of Europe is ahead of us.
Yes – I appreciate there are more inportant happening in the world – but this is such a small project which could make a big difference. Vouchers which can be spent on ‘food’

Another BIG Thank You – Volunteers @ Extravaganza 2022

Volunteers again – I am very proud to be part of them – another very successful afternoon/evening of family entertainment for a very modest nominal charge.
Lots of enjoyment for children and families again this year – 10+ months to organise the event. Sponsors and Whittlesey Town Council all helped.

Queens Platinum Jubilee Wood project.

Fenland Police – Christmas Toy Appeal

As this year’s Christmas toy appeal comes to a close, I would like to pass on my heartfelt thanks to the wonderfully generous Fenland community for your kind donations.

I would estimate we have received over 2000 gifts this year!

I appreciate just how financially difficult it is at the moment, so to receive the number of gifts we have is overwhelming.
All these gifts will give hundreds of disadvantaged children a present this year that they may not have ordinarily received.

From scooters to games consoles, and board games to clothing, I know these gifts will put a smile on a young person’s face this Christmas.
The attached pictures are just a small sample of what we have received.
Special thanks go to Kelly Riddell the March Tesco community champion for choosing this appeal as her choice of campaign this Christmas, and to Sally and Vikki from Childrens social care for their organisation and distribution of the presents.

Thank you once again and I wish you all a healthy and safe Christmas.

Call when it counts this Christmas

Last December, our Demand Hub received 10% more 999 calls than our monthly average for the rest of the year. 

This means that instead of winding down for Christmas like a lot of people, we expect that our call handlers will be getting even busier as we get closer to the 25th, as calls about antisocial behaviour, theft and drink driving often increase during December.
This is why we are reminding Cambridgeshire residents to only #CallWhenItCounts this Christmas, reserving 999 calls for emergencies that require immediate police assistance. 

For anything that’s not urgent, call handlers will be able to help you on 101, or on live web chat (where our average response time in November was just 35 seconds). 

Online reports are also available to fill in from our website 24/7. Every online report is assessed within a matter of hours, and if the IMU decide that there is sufficient evidence / witnesses, an investigation will be launched and police will contact you. 

Whilst we want to emphasise that we are always here to help, a large percentage of our 999 calls could have been dealt with using our online services or live web chat, which would help to reduce the constant pressure on our phone lines.

Clare Wood was murdered in her own home by her ex-boyfriend George Appleton 13 years ago. She didn’t know he had a history of violence against women. She was only 36.

Her father believed she may have still been alive if she knew about her partner’s violent past.

He campaigned for the introduction of Clare’s Law which started in 2014 and is used by thousands of women and men every year.

Remember – if you think you might be a risk from a new partner or concerned a family member or friend might be a from a new partner, you can ask us to check their record.

Kings Dyke –
Temporary Traffic Management at Night week from Monday 12/12/2022

A message from the King’s Dyke project team:
Once a new road is built, there is often the need for what we call ‘snagging’ work. As a result of this, during our checks, we have noticed extra drainage is required on the bridge. While this work is carried out, there will be temporary two-way traffic lights installed along Ralph Butcher Causeway starting on Monday (12 Dec). Jones Bros will be working overnight from 8pm until 6am for four nights.  

We are carrying out this work behind the temporary barriers and overnight to try and minimise disruption in December and the lead up to Christmas.
There will be a need for further remedial work in the New Year, but we will know more after Christmas and once this work is completed.

We will carry out the work as quickly as possible – thank you for your patience.
