Wouldn’t It Be Nice If We Had A Welcoming Police Station?

Having fought for some time and lost to retain our local police station – I will never give up…sorry – The professionals always tell me – we do not need a police station any more, because of modern, mobile policing….I agree to a certain extent.
However a local population of 16,000+ and no Police Station just doesn’t sound right.

So as a quip – here is a very welcoming Police Station in Northern Thailand (Chiang Mai) in a local suburb – ‘Welcome’ it states – borrow free electric bikes (2) and yes the law abiding Thai’s return them when finished, rather than in Peterborough’s case trashed and vandalised…… finished thanks – had my rant for the day.

More Rubbish – Controversy

Local Social Media enthusiast Roy B, has posted up (I am sent) another case of ‘Rubbish’
Whether or not it belongs to the adjacent business (Saxon Petrol Station) or not remains to be confirmed or proven – but who-ever – it highlights the issue.

Who Dumps A Fridge/Freezer In The Play Park….

Some brainless person(s) dumped a fridge/freezer at the Station Road Play Area.
Humping this would have taken some effort by more than one person I would have throught – I just can not understand – they could have left it outside of the Recycling Centre if that desperate – I am not condoning Fly-Tipping outside of the RC – but better that leaving at a kids play area.

It Could Be Good News For Fenland Ratepayers…

Agenda for Overview and Scrutiny Panel on Monday, 16th January, 2023, 1.30 pm

Click Here To See The Agenda

‘Nearly’ everyone want more money/tax from us all – there is a squeeze, however Fendland District Council part of your/our rates have not increased for a number of years.

At next weeks Overview & Scrutiny Committee meeting –
The Draft Budget for 2023-24 will be on the agenda.

(Whittlesey Town Council will have on this weeks agenda – Budget 2023-24)

Council at its meeting on 18 July 2019, agreed to re-position the MTFS to show 0%
Council Tax increases through to 2023/24. This report extends the MTFS period
and 0% increases to 2027/28. The motion agreed by Council emphasised that 0%
increases in Council Tax throughout the MTFS period is an ambition and it was
recognised that the Council continues to face significant financial challenges and
uncertainties that may not allow this ambition to be met. These challenges and
uncertainties have been exacerbated by Covid-19.

9.4 The motion also stated that Members of the Council need to act responsibly each
year when setting the precept to balance the ambition of achieving a 0% Council
Tax rise with the legal need to balance the budget. It was agreed that raising
Council Tax in any of the next four years will be a last resort in order to minimise the
financial effects of Council Tax on all of Fenland’s households.

9.5 For information, an additional 1% increase in Council Tax in 2023/24 would
generate in the region of £81,000 of revenue per annum to the Council. Even with
this additional revenue included, the estimates for future years show a significant
and increasing shortfall (see Table 4 below).

One Small Step Again – Makes A Big Difference

I ‘Wonder’ Will Fenland Get One….

We are ‘told’ frequently that the road sweeper and street sweeper are in Whittlesey regularly – I often challenge this, because unless they are doing it in the middle of the night – they seem pretty inconspicuous to me and most people.

Here we have ‘Buster’ driving ‘itself’ around (not sure if it is a he or she) happily going about its business of cleaning up all by itself – stops whenever something in its way and will eventually go around the obstacle.
Naturally only good on certain surfaces – but I understand – it doesn’t  waste time talking to people, taking any breaks and only needs a charge up at the end of the day….
Can we have one please….

Oh No – Not Another Survey

I have asked this ‘question’ on many occasions – how much notice do ‘these’ people take of the survey results – in many cases it is seen as a ‘box ticking’ exercise to appease authorities and government.

Still this one is about the ‘Hot subject’ of Buses…..
5 to 8 minutes depending on what detail you want to give.

Good Morning all,

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority is asking members of the public and stakeholders to have their say on its draft Bus Strategy in a consultation which will run until 22nd February 2023.

The Bus Strategy sets the vision for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough which is for a comprehensive network of bus services across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough that people find convenient, easy to use, reliable, affordable, and offers an attractive alternative to the car.  The purpose of the Bus Strategy is not to examine detailed, granular issues around specific routes and services; more to outline the key, strategic aims, objectives, and aspirations the region has for its bus network to enable the Combined Authority and partners to bid for further funding and shape the network to meet the needs of residents and businesses.

Press release can be found here

The Survey can be found here

Thank you in advance for sharing the survey with the residents you represent and providing them the opportunity to have their say
