The answer is…. I don’t know, as the majority Conservative Group had their meeting on Tuesday of this week, they would have decided who they will put forward at tonights full Town Council Meeting.

As there are 10 Conservative Councillors and 4 Independents, if all attend the meeting, the voting will be a forgone conclusion?

I did ask ? – but was informed it was – confidential. So I can have a good guess….
But like everyone else outside of that meeting – we will have to wait and see.

The tree on Scaldgate has been chopped down – what do I know about it?

From Fenland District Council.

In March 2023, we received a report that a large branch had fallen from one of the trees located on the amenity grass area at Scaldgate, Whittlesey.
During my initial visit I identified fungi but required further advice from a qualified tree surgeon.
Following their on-site inspection, Fenland District Council was advised to fell one of the trees due to the fungal decay and the increased risk of potential failure in future.
Please find attached photos showing the fungi and what remains of the branch which fell.

We were also advised to carry out work to a further tree in the same location to reduce the height and rebalance the crown.

As you know I am new to the Open Spaces Team, due to this I received advice from two officers within the Tivoli Arb Team and an experienced officer at Fenland District Council prior to completing the application to carry out tree works within a conservation area.

I/we have tried on so many occasions to get a ‘SpeedWatch Group Going’ but never got the number required. Some of us have done the online training.

From listening to concerns from the community in Fenland, speeding has been set as a priority for the local neighbourhood policing teams to tackle.
Over the last three months, our Wisbech team have carried out more than 40 hours of speed checks across the villages – 15 people were handed tickets, while 105 were given words of advice.
While we will be getting out to carry out speed checks whenever possible, you can help us.
Did you know you could volunteer as part of Community Speedwatch?

It is a national initiative where members of communities, with the support and supervision from their local police, record details of speeding vehicles using approved detection devices.
Registered keepers of vehicles breaking the speed limit are then contacted by letter, explaining the potential risks and consequences of their dangerous behaviour.
Repeat offender will receive a visit from our officers and could face criminal prosecution.

At the moment, we are scarce on volunteers to run schemes across the majority of Fenland, so are really on the hunt for more people to join us!

Why doesn’t Whittlesey have ‘Town Hall’ meetings – mainly an ‘American Term
What is the purpose of townhall meetings?

The purpose of town hall meetings is for local and regional officials to hear the community’s views on public issues.

There have been no specific rules or guidelines for holding a town hall meeting. The format of the meetings can vary.

Way back in 2008/09, I was asked by the Police to organise meetings for them here in Whittlesey, every 3 months, so that the public could see and ask face-to face with our Police Force. Some 6 months later, I and my team had expanded it to include many other organisations. Unfortunately, I was not a Councillor at the time, and others took it over – it lasted leass that 2 meetings and was no more.

I have suggested to some that they may wish to start one again.?
