Here Comes Another Large Planning Application

F/YR23/0245/O | Erect up to 175 x dwellings (outline application with matters committed in respect of access) | Land South Of 250 Drybread Road Whittlesey Cambridgeshire.

(This is an ‘outline application’ – as above)
More details will follow as the application progresses.

You can view the application along with other documents and Public Comments/Objections by visiting FDC Planning Portal Click Here

As with the recent application for Showfields, our New Queen Street Surgery, commented..

4.1 The existing GP practices do not have capacity to accommodate the
additional growth resulting from the proposed development.
The
development would generate approximately 139 residents and
subsequently increased the demand and healthcare pressures upon the
existing services..

4.2 The primary healthcare services directly impacted by the proposed
development and the current capacity position.

I am no planning expert and have had only very basic training on planning law, however, District Councillors along with Planning Oficers at FDC are in a much better position in respect of ‘Planning Policy’.

My question and point is that after the very disappointing
turn around by some Councillors at the FDC Planning meeting re-Showfields to accept the application.

Why is little or no weight given to our Medical Infrastructure (NQS and Jenner Health)
applied. With major developments along Eastrea Road will add even more ‘stress’ to our already overloaded medical facilities.

Surely looking at the below criteria this is a serious loss of amenities to local residents.

From FDC’s Planning Portal…
Q Can I comment on a planning application?

Yes you can.
There is a time limit to receiving comments but sometimes an officer may
accept them after 21 days of consultation. This is at the discretion of the planning officer.
These are the type of comments that would be relevant.

• The scale, appearance and design of the proposal;

• The effect of the proposal on the amenities of local residents, including loss of light,
overlooking, loss of privacy, noise and disturbance;

• The impact of the proposal on the character of the area and whether the use is
appropriate;

• The impact of the proposal on highway safety and parking;

• The impact of the proposal on nature conservation and trees;

• The effect of the proposal on the character and appearance of a Conservation Area;
and

• The effect of the proposal on the special architectural or historic interest of a Listed
Building.

If you have objections or concerns you can make your comments know by either post/e-mail or visiting the Planning Portal.

Drybread Road already a ‘rat run’ – Decoy Lake Road, is single carriage way and will become a ‘rat run’ – none of this is material planning policy for objecting…..

Covid Infections Increase

I am aware of several people here in Whittlesey who are positive at present.

COVID-19 infections increased in England in the week ending 13 March 2023, and the trends were uncertain in Wales and Scotland. In the week ending 7 March 2023, infection trends were uncertain in Northern Ireland.
The estimated percentage of people living in private households (those not in care homes or other communal establishments
) testing positive for COVID-19 was:

  • 2.66% in England (1 in 40 people)
  • 2.41% in Wales (1 in 40 people)
  • 1.42% in Northern Ireland (1 in 70 people)
  • 2.59% in Scotland (1 in 40 people)

The overall hospital admission rate of patients with confirmed COVID-19 in England increased slightly to 10.62 per 100,000 people in the week ending 19 March 2023. In the same week, the intensive care unit (ICU) and high dependency unit (HDU) admission rate remained low at 0.28 per 100,000 people.

In the UK, there were 603 deaths involving COVID-19 registered in the week ending 10 March 2023. This is an increase from 564 in the previous week. Deaths involving COVID-19 accounted for 4.6% of all deaths in the UK in the latest week, which is an increase from 4.1% in the previous week.

News From NQS PPG

New Queen Sreet & Stanground Surgeries Patient
Participation Group Meeting
held on Monday
06th February 2023.

Interesting information given by surgery.

The national average of appointments per 1000 patients was 459 in December;
the practice was 628 per 1000 patients so well above the national average.
So far as face to face appointments are concerned the national average was 325 and the practice was at 352.

The trend is upwards which is encouraging and with further recruitment should improve further.

( I know this may not impress everyone, but NQS appears to be doing better than the average for England/Wales)

                                            WHITTLESEY WAR MEMORIAL
                                                             by Maureen Watson
This year marks the centenary of Whittlesey War Memorial, which was unveiled on 25th February 1923 at a ceremony attended by Brigadier-General W Strong CB CMG.
It was funded by public subscription and cost £750.

The War Memorial was designed by a Whittlesey resident, Thomas William Ford, who lived in Blunts Lane.
The memorial’s full-length statue depicts St George, sword
in hand, with one foot on a slain dragon. St George faces towards the railway station from where local men went off to war, many never to return.

The tragedy of war hit many Whittlesey families hard; some harder than others.
In the First World War, James and Mary Anne Parker sadly lost seven grandsons.
The War Memorial now commemorates the fallen from the First and Second World Wars, the Civil Defence, and the Korean War.

[To coincide with the centenary, Whittlesey Museum has mounted an
exhibition which includes photographs of some of the men whose names are engraved on the War Memorial.
{The Museum is open on Saturday mornings between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm.}

A VERY Irresponsible Parent Today – So Close….

The Police will be informed of this incident today. Fortunately having lived along Ramsey Road for 47 years I am VERY aware of ‘Speeding’ and School Kids….

Kid & Father from behind ‘blind car’ straight in front of me….Not Bothered at all….
I came back a bit shaken wondered what had happen if I’d hit the Kid….
Father at fault…

Does the Kid look where he is going. Is the Father bothered.
Both my and their lucky day indeed.

Less than 10 metres – can you see the Kid or the Parent.

Peeps behind the car Kid not looking Parent is looking.

In a Rush NOT Bothered.

Luckily all the traffic was going slow….had I’d been doing any more than 8mph it could have been a very serious accident.

Get a grip….

Dropped Man-Hole On Market Street

The ‘usual’man-hole ironworks which has dropped on Market Street and is annoying nearby residents has been reported to the authorities on several occasions.
It belongs to Anglian Water, and as of 13:00 today there is now a sign stating works/ road closure will take place next month (April).
I understand it has been inspected and is deemed to be safe.

A very large Industrial Complex at Horsey Way/Toll was put to Peterborough Planners yesterday. Sense at last and not advised by the threats (as in Fenlands case recently) by legal eagles on cost grounds. Refused….Highways on the A605 is already bad enough,
Cambridgeshire Highways well No Comment?
