On Monday it is is world restart a heart day. 100’s of thousands across the world will receive CPR and defibrillator training. Defibrillators For All will be investing in the year 7 pupils of SHSCC.
We have 8 trainers/supporters going into the school and will teach 3 large groups the largest being 95 pupils.

This will of course be free to the school and the pupils but will cost the charity just under £900. Money well spent to have 220 young people trained.

Cambridgeshire County Council has launched an online fall risk checking tool to help you understand your risk of falling and simple steps you can take to stay active and independent.

From the age of 65, the risk of having a fall increases but many are avoidable. The new tool, Steady on your Feet, is aimed at those who haven’t previously had a fall but would like to understand what they can do to prevent this happening.

 Steady on Your Feet is easy to use, asking a short series of questions to help understand any individual risks you might have and providing an action plan to keep you active and independent while increasing your confidence and reducing the risk of falling. You can fill it in yourself, or ask a family member or friend if you need extra help.

Suggested steps to prevent a fall might include arranging an eye or hearing test, increasing your activity levels and eating a balanced diet, or even looking after your feet and making sure you wear supportive footwear with non-slip soles.

Firefighters were delayed when responding to an emergency when they encountered fly-tipping on their route.

Crews from Sawston and Linton, along with a crew from Saffron Walden in Essex, were making their way to a road traffic collision on M11 last week when they came across a large pile of dumped rubbish blocking the road.

A fire service spokesman said: “The crew from Sawston was travelling along a service road when they encountered colleagues from Saffron Walden, who were stopped in front of them. Once they got closer they noticed a pile of fly tipped rubbish. The crews started to remove the blockage so they could continue to make their way to the incident, when they were joined by a crew from Linton. All three crews worked together to clear the blockage as quickly as possible and made their way to the road traffic collision. This delayed the crews getting to the incident by around six minutes.

“Fortunately, in this situation the casualty involved in the collision was able to be safely removed from their vehicle by the ambulance service. Had they have been trapped either mechanically or medically the situation could have been much worse.”

This incident highlights the importance of disposing of rubbish properly, as the consequences of leaving it can be severe.

“Fly-tipping rubbish not only causes environmental issues, but can pose significant risks for firefighters. Not only can it block them responding, as it did in this incident, but it also can encourage people to set fire to it. These deliberate fires can spread quickly causing significant damage and injury.”

Reported last night as many as 9 outside lights not working, the manager was aware, I understand this morning all has been fixed.

Today at Fenland Hall, Chairman of FDC Cllr Nick Meekins held his charity coffee morning, in aid of The East Anglian Air Ambulance Service.
Myself and WTC Cllr Barry Wainwright attended, also Mayor of Whittlesey Cllr Kay Mayor and Deputy Mayor Cllr Dee Laws also supported the event.

Nice Cakes and Sausage Rolls and we all came away with some raffle prizes.
