Neighbourhood Police News

It has been a busy week for our March neighbourhood officers!
During their week of early shifts, they have:

Seized a car for no licence or insurance.         Recovered a JCB in Chatteris that had been
stolen from Humberside.

In between all of their work, they have also carried out parking patrols across the sector. This week, they visited:

  • Park Lane Primary School in Whittlesey
  • Burrowmoor Primary School in March
  • Mill View in March
  • Westwood Primary School in March
  • Lionel Waldon in Doddington

Numerous tickets were given alongside words of advice when necessary.
This is just a snippet of the great work they have done this week. To hear about the work they have been doing, you can follow ‘Policing Fenland’ on Facebook or visit

No One Has Come Forward !!!

WEFA – [Whittlesey Emergency Food Aid], which was orginally set up by then
Cllr (now ex Cllr) David Mason, has provided a ‘lifleine’ to many within our area.
Orginally based at The Christian Church, now operates from the rear of the Manor Centre.
With the planned closure and demolishing of the Manor Centre, WEFA have been given notice to vacate.
David Mason has been very actively campaigning for suitable premises, with no results.
Questioned at a FDC meeting, Leader Cllr Boden stated that ‘He’/Fenland would find alternative accomodation.
On a brief encounter yesterday with David, he informs me that the committee have all resigned [NOT retired].

There is a ‘new’ committee in place.

Local Scribbler – Demand Councillors Should Resign

‘Sometime(s) – Activist’ Mr. Peter Baxter, demanded that ALL Whittlesey Councillors should hang their heads in shame and should resign over the NatWest Building debarcle.
Long time campaigner on several issues, passionate about this building.
When explained that it is a Fenland District Council, planning control remit and that currently there is an enforcement notice and pending court case, he would not accept that it was good enough.
Peter Baxter of course is perfectly entitled to his opinion.

The ‘system’ is by no means perfect or in some cases fit for purpose, but the whole country has exactly the same laws and process in place.

The NatWest building, we are all onboard, that it is a valuable asset to our heritage, and has been left in a poor neglected state for far too long.

RG Note….Mr Baxter is not my constituent. He lives in a different ward to which I represent.
The NatWest building is in the ward I represent along with 3 other Councillors.
He never contact the other 3 Councillors.
Over the last 15 years, I’ve probably spent several ‘hundreds’ of hours listening to
Mr. Baxters issues and concerns.

New Law Strengthens Protection For Livestock

From today a new legislation will come into force to better protect livestock and support farmers across the countryside.

The Dogs Protection of Livestock Amendment Act 2025 has now received Royal Assent, giving police stronger powers to deal with livestock worrying.

What is livestock worrying?
A dog does not need to bite or injure livestock for an offence to occur. Chasing, attacking, or even being loose among livestock can cause severe stress, injury, abortion in pregnant animals, or even death.

What’s changing?
The new law will:

  • Increase the maximum penalty from £1,000 to an unlimited fine
  • Extend offences to incidents on roads and public paths as well as fields
  • Include llamas and alpacas within the definition of livestock
  • Allow police to seize and detain dogs where there is a risk of further incidents
  • Give officers powers to take forensic samples from dogs or livestock to support investigations
  • Allow courts to order offenders to pay costs for seizing and keeping a dog

Our Rural Crime Action Team remain committed to protecting livestock, animal welfare, farmers’ livelihoods.
If livestock are worried or attacked, please report it to us.

Read more about the law changes here.

Child Exploitation Can Happen Anywhere

We are asking for your help to keep children in Cambridgeshire safe.

In recent weeks, our officers have received several worrying calls involving the safety of children and young people across the county.
These cases have included a boy being blackmailed to send explicit photos online, a missing 12-year-old girl being found with an older boy and a child confiding in his social worker that he was being forced to sell drugs.
Our dedicated Child Exploitation Hub deals with concerns like these every single week, working tirelessly to safeguard those at risk. But we cannot do this alone.

Child exploitation can happen anywhere – in any town, any street, and to any family. You may feel it would never affect someone you know, but the reality is that it can, and it does.

As we mark Child Exploitation Awareness Day, we’re asking you to take a moment to:

  • Learn the signs of child exploitation
  • Speak with your children, or the young people in your life, about any concerns they may have
  • Reach out to us if something doesn’t feel right

Sometimes, a single conversation can make all the difference. To learn more about the warning signs, how exploitation happens, and how to report concerns, please
visit our dedicated web page by clicking here.
