Fen cops Trick or Treat

Ahead of Halloween this week, we ask that you consider the advice below to help you, your friends and family stay safe whilst trick or treating.

Don’t knock on the doors of strangers and look for signs that trick or treaters are welcome such as Halloween decorations.

  • Never go trick or treating alone, always take someone with you
  • Keep to the paths and remember road safety rules after dark
  • Wear something bright and colourful so that drivers can see you
  • Remember damage to a property or hurting someone is a crime, so keep your tricks to yourself!
  • Finally, enjoy goblin all the treats!

Whilst it’s an exciting night for some, please bear in mind that there are members of the public who do not wish to take part.
We ask that you respect people’s wishes and try not to disturb those who chose not to celebrate.

Update – FDC Planning Committee Agenda Today 30th

I am pleased to have secured my position back onto Fenland District Council’s Planning Committee as a substansive member.

Some contentious applications coming before todays FDC Planning Committee.
Nothing in Whittlesey, but some in March.

FDC Agenda frontsheet 30102024 1300 Planning Committee

Planning is a very time consuming and at most times intense position.

ALL Councillors should look at applications on their merits and are guided by
the Governments National Planning Policy Framework, and not limited too, the Local Fenland Plan and Local Town and Parish Plans.

We are also guided by Planning Officers.

I am very open to being lobbied, however we must not be pre-determined on applications unless we have our own views, in which case we would have to declare ourselves.

U3A Film Night

Queen St Movie Eve – Sat. 2nd Nov.  Doors 6.30pm for 7pm  start

“Half Broken Things” – cert 12

(Drama  / Mystery / Thriller)
Starring Penelope Wilton and Daniel Mays

 An excellent, crazy drama.

What happens when three lonely people, all of whom are looking for something, be it love, support or comfort, encounter one another, and begin living a lie, a sumptuous, comfortable, glorious lie?
What a wonderful ninety minute drama this is, it’s so incredibly weird and wonderful, but engaging, funny, intriguing, and has a real shock moment.

It starts off In a somewhat serious tone, then becomes an almost whimsical drama of wonder and disbelief, until the traumatic act that totally transforms the story.

Stef had come from an awful home life, Jason truly was a monster, Michael started off as a petty thief, was Jean perhaps the most deluded and crazed of them all?

Did she perhaps cause the events?

Refreshments served during interval. No admission charge, donations welcomed.

Although we scheduled some movies to be shown on Sunday afternoons at the request of some attendees, there was a disappointingly low turn out for last Sunday afternoon’s screening. It is very likely therefore that all movies will be shown on Saturday evenings from now on – please check dates for other screenings.

Whittlesey traffic update

Cambs CC  – Update 25 October:

Since our last update, we’re pleased to confirm we have been able to bring forward the work to repair the B1040 at East Delph where a lane is closed after erosion had caused the bank to collapse.

Work on the structural repairs will start on Monday 28 October and is expected to finish on 22 November. The road will be fully closed during the works and a diversion route will be signposted.

The emergency lane closure of the Ralph Butcher Causeway remains in place and we will continue to work with our contractors to ensure that traffic management measures are operating effectively.

Programmed works on the Benwick Road emergency lane closure are planned to start in late November following on from the works on the B1040. These works will also require a full road closure and a diversion route will be in place.

Fixed digital signage in place in Whittlesey will continue to share updates on emergency closures and roadworks. Daily traffic information is available via One.network and @Cambs_Traffic on X.

Further updates will continue to be shared via www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/kingsdyke.

We apologise for the inconvenience these continuing lane closures cause.

Update 17 October:

Since sharing the above update, we have received a large number of enquiries from local residents who would like the temporary closure of the westbound lane of Ralph Butcher Causeway to be lifted.

For everyone’s safety – including road users and our contractors’ engineers as they continue their investigations – this is not possible.

Intrusive testing and monitoring is taking place as we seek to understand the cracking, movement and settlement issues with the Kings Dyke crossing.

The single westbound lane closure needs to remain in place for the foreseeable future. We will continue to monitor the situation and will put in place the most appropriate, safe traffic management for everyone’s wellbeing, whilst we identify repairs.

East Delph is now open following recent flooding. One lane is closed due to the bank collapse.

Fixed digital signage in place in Whittlesey will continue to share updates on emergency closures and roadworks. Daily traffic information is available via One.network.

Further updates will continue to be shared via www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/kingsdyke.

We apologise for the inconvenience these lane closures cause.
