Martin Curtis - Open Email to the Leader of Fenland District Council
March residents and councillors have fought for ‘years’ to get funding in place for ‘MATS’ –
The March Area Transport Study’ and in a moment of what-ever the unpredictable Dr Haq has derailed (maybe temporary) the final stage of getting that £7m.
He may have had his motive for Whittlesey – but has not in anyway understood the agenda item.
It is not the first time Dr Haq has made a somewhat blunder – he quite oftens speaks eloquently on a completely unrelated subject to what the agenda or anyone else maybe speaking about.
He and I had a somewhat disagreement over his plan for a ‘Flag Pole’ for Peel House (Council Offices) – He got quotes for some £4,000 (yes for a flag pole) – no mention of how it would be fixed or where services like gas or electricty maybe in the way.
After a few bouts in the ring with him, I eventually was tasked with the job, and the flag pole you see, fitted with a flag £250 –
not £4,000 that he wanted to spend your money on.
Recently Mr Steve Robertson, who regularly attends Councill meetings has asked Dr. Haq – what his role as ‘leader of the Council was’ – No reply or response.
He asked later what had the leader done during his time as leader – No reply or response.
Dr Haq is a strategic thinker – way above a Town/District Council leavel and has hopes may be becoming something much higher up in the political spectrum – ?
Receiving an e-mail informing us of Cambridgeshire County Council’s plans for dealing with the ‘Weed Issues’ (Ha) – The schedual of work did not include – yes you guessed right Whittlesey. So I sent an e-mail asking why we were not included.
~I then got a message back ….
The full list of all the parishes will be on the webpages from July. We have only published the first 2 weeks of locations to be treated, these locations are subject to the weather and the amount of weeds that are present makes a difference to the length of time the contract take to apply the herbicide.
All parishes that have not withdrawn from the programme will receive chemical weed treatment during the months of June and July.
Emma Stannard
Green Infrastructure Team Manager- Highways Maintenance.
This morning I called Emma Stannard and asked her ‘How’ the Weed excercise was going to be carried out.
After spraying, – 3/4 weeks later the road sweeper will hopefully go around and clear out those ‘now dead weeds’ – I asked about those BIG weeds on pathways – she said the Fenland District Council will be dealing with them?
We shall see…..
16 members including myself (founder member & not a business) enjoyed some lively debate on how the futire of the group should progress.
Those who attended the Big Bash last Sunday, the WBC had a stall where they had a ‘Teddy Bear’ – name the bear competition.
Unfortunately no one guessed the correct name which was ‘WOODY’ – and therefor a draw was held last night won by a Tracy Spencer.
Talking of the BIG BASH – Mr Robert Windle the organiser informs that 2025 the event will be on 22nd June.

Fenland District Council, responsible for the General Election and By-Election count for the forthcoming elections on 04th July.
The count will begin when all ballot boxes have been returned and varified.
The count will then start for both sets of elections – General and By-Election.
After substantial damage done to the building as a result of a ‘Ram Raid’ –
Nationwide Whittlesey will close whilst major building works are carried out.
Following concerns around drug dealing, neighbourhood officers carried out a drugs warrant in Monks Close, Whittlesey, on Friday.
Three men, all in their 30s, were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs and have all been bailed to return to Thorpe Wood Police Station in September while our investigation continues.
If you have any concerns around drug use or dealing in your area, you can report it to us on our website.
Both class A and class B drugs were seized along with electronic devices and £1,300 in cash.
