I Am On The Case – As You Would Expect
After some years as a local councillor, we get to know how ‘things’ work and where to find ‘things’ out – or thats the way it should work…..for most councillors, some do not bother.
This week a challenge arises on an overgrown hedging which has grown wild.
There could be several owners? – Maybe Highways (Footpaths), could be County Council, or could be Fenland District Council.
Resident contacted me Wednesday, I made enquiries Thursday and had the answer by Friday – not bad – yes it is a Fenland asset and they will get it sorted.
It all takes a little time and effort…..

Invitation – Straw Bear Pub Next Thursday
An open invitation to join together and cheer on our Paris Paralympian gold medal hope and Whittlesey rifle club president Matt Skelhon at a community event:.
Thursday 5th Sept (am) at the Straw Bear pub,
(Drybread Rd) 09:30-12:00.
A special event for his last competition final, which is being televised at 10:45. A Free tea or coffee provided. Bar and kitchen open for paid drinks and food.
Please come for some Flag waving and fun to support our world champion target sports shooter.
Matt knows about the local event and is really pleased to have the towns support as he aims for Paralympic Gold in Paris Paralympics.
Aged 39, he learned to shoot at the rifle club before famously winning a gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, followed by silver and bronze at London 2012.
After a tough few years with no medals at the subsequent games, he has fought his way back to form.
He is representing team GB, competing in the R3 10m air rifle prone contest on September 1st. On September 5th he will be taking part in the outdoor R6 50m rifle prone competition, where he is both European and world champion, which also helped secure his Paralympic team selection.
Whittlesey has had a rifle club in the town for around 100 years and the current club building, which was built by Fenland District Council, has been run by volunteers as a community amateur sports and social club for nearly 50 years.
The club won a High Sheriff award this year for services to the local community.

Man With Dementia Safeguarded
A man with dementia living in Peterborough has been safeguarded thanks to the kind efforts of a concerned member of the public.
The man in his 70s was found wandering down Oundle Road by a passerby last Friday night, who called 999 after noticing the man appeared confused.
He tried to give the woman directions to his home but after a few turns, said he couldn’t remember where it was.
Checks revealed the man had severe dementia. Officers attended and took the man back to his care home, roughly two miles away from where he was found.
We’d like to thank the passerby for her kindness and compassion after noticing something didn’t seem quite right.
We’ve since put further safeguarding measures in place together with the care home – including telling them all about the Herbert Protocol.
Have you heard of it? It’s a scheme we support that can help find people with dementia if they go missing.
It encourages family and friends to keep a document that will help officers in the event a loved one goes missing by collating key pieces of information, such as a physical description, familiar places, health details and an up-to-date photo.
For more information or to download a Herbert Protocol form,
visit our dedicated web page.
