Confusion on Road Closures (North Bank) – B1040

I understand that there has been somewhat ‘Challenges’ along the A605 with traffic issues,
this happens regularly when North Bank is closed, plus the for never ending Traffic Lights on the Ralph Butcher Causeway (Bridge).

Councillors are on the case and are in contact with the revelant authorities.
They have been in liasion over the weekend to try and avoid some of the issues that is happening today.

Undoubtedly – Social Media – comes into play by updating residents/road users much more quickly than a web-blog can.

Flood Warning In Effect – EA @ 05:07

Flood warning for North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Heavy rain is currently falling in the Peterborough area which is causing the River levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding of the North Bank Road, between Peterborough and Rings End. Whilst this Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. We are closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated by 15:00 on 30/09/2024, or before, if the situation changes.

Flood warning area: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the West of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Free Poetry Workshop(s)

In the lead-up to the 2024/5 Fenland Poet Laureate Awards, free poetry workshops will take place in Whittlesey and Wisbech (on the theme of roots).

Participants will look at a series of poems relating to the theme of roots (where we are from). Inspired by these poems, we will map our childhood haunts and remember places that aren’t on the map! As we build lists of these places, gradually we will work towards creating poems from our roots maps. We’ll look at the ways in which we can utilise different poetic forms, such as the abecedarian to incorporate our place lists.

Teas, coffees and complimentary biscuits (the latter courtesy of landlord Adam) will be available at The Letter B, with an option to stay for lunch after the poetry workshop.

With thanks to Wisbech Town Council and Adam at The Letter B for providing free venues for these events.
Kind regards,

Elisabeth
