E-Cops – Fraud warning

There have been quite a few people in our area – that have been victims of Romance Fraud.

Yesterday marked the start of international fraud awareness week, and we want to make you aware of some of our most “frequent frauds” to help keep you and your loved ones safe from the scammers.

Every day this week, at 9am, we will send you details of a different fraud and how to prevent yourself falling victim.

First up, romance fraud

It might not be Valentine’s Day just yet, but people look for love all year round, and when they do, they often turn to online dating. Sadly, romance fraudsters can always be relied upon to ruin the fun. Dating and romance scammers build a bond with someone online, leading the victim to believe they are in a real relationship, before asking for money, usually for an emotive reason.

Prevention:

  • Never send money to someone you haven’t met
  • Always use trusted dating sites to speak with a new love interest and be wary of anyone who wants to take the conversation away from the platform too quickly
  • Beware of the use of fake photos and videos – the person you are talking to or looking at may not be who they say they are.
A quick Google reverse image search will show you if their profile picture has been used before

Making A Comment About A Planning Application

For local applications in Fenland go to FDC’s Website by Clicking Here

The Government says we can’t consider certain things when deciding a planning application. These are not ‘planning considerations’ and include comments relating to:

  • loss of property value
  • boundary disputes
  • trade competition
  • private matters between neighbours (e.g covenants, access rights or property damage)

You can comment about its:

  • scale, appearance or design
  • effect on the ‘amenities’ of local residents e.g disturbance, loss of light or privacy
  • impact on the character of the area
  • use, and whether it is appropriate
  • impact on highway safety or parking
  • impact on nature, conservation and trees. This includes the character and appearance in a conservation area
  • effect on the special architectural or historic interest of a listed building
You can comment even if it is not your application.

    Making a comment

Please view the application forms and plans on Public Access before making a comment. There may be a delay between the application being registered and the documents being uploaded.

You can email comments to [email protected]. Alternatively, you can write to the Development Services team at Fenland Hall, County Road, March, PE15 8NQ.

There is a time limit to receiving comments. It is at the Planning Officers discretion whether comments are accepted after 21 days of consultation.
