CCC – Whittlesey/Fenland Election Results
First of all, may I congratulate ALL the candidates for putting themselves up for election.
The public have voted and democracy takes it’s course.
I would personally congratulate Mr. Michael Fisher for being elected for the County Council Ward of Whittlesey South (this being my own Roy Gerstner Ward for Whittlesey Town Council and Fenland Distruict Council) and I am sure we can work together for the best in the interest of our community and electorate.
Supporting today at the count our Independent candidate Barry Wainwright came a respectable 3rd in the Whittlesey South Ward, probably enough to have ‘split’ the vote and allowing the Reform Candidate Mr. Fisher a very credible majority over Dr. Haq Nawaz (The pictures tell the story).
All Kudos to Barry for standing up…..

Mr Michael Fisher (R) Dr Haq Nawaz (Con)

In the North Ward, Incumbent FDC Leader and WTC Councillor Chris Boden takes the seat – not without a fight and a very much reduced majority.
Elsewhere the ‘Conserative Heavyweights, Steve Tierney, Sam Hoye, both re-elected in Wisbech.
Two Conservative Heavyweights beaten, Steve Count (ex leader of Cambs CC) and Ann Hay the sitting candidate.
You can view all the results by going to FDC’s Website by – Clicking Here……
To top off the day, my once every 4 years passing/meeting with MP Steve Barclay, who I have to say, always remembers my name and has a smile to greet me…..thank you Steve.

Hot Weather Advice – While It Lasts
An officer conducting house to house enquiries today visited several properties where windows were left open, but nobody was at home.
Many burglars are opportunists, and this provides them with an easy way of getting into your property.
The warmer weather is glorious, but please remember to shut windows if you go out. This is a simple way of protecting your home.
More burglary prevention advice can be found on our website.
Kind regards,
Tim Goddard

The Story of the Yellow Phone
You close the door to your home. It should be your safe space, but it’s not. It’s 7.24pm on a Monday night and you’re in fear of your husband.
You walk down the road quickly. You glance back, and realise he’s following you.
You start walking in Peterborough city centre, unsure where to turn, but you end up near Thorpe Wood police enquiry office. You call police using the yellow emergency phone, but then your spirits lift – you see a police officer making their way into work and flag them down.

This might sound like a slightly farfetched dream, but it was the reality of what one woman faced earlier this week.
She told the officer she had fled her home in the city and alleged eight years of domestic violence and coercive control.
She told them her husband takes her money, controls her movements, doesn’t let her go out or buy new clothes.
We immediately took steps to safeguard the woman and made sure she had a safe place to spend the night.
We arrested a man from Peterborough in connection with the allegations, and enquiries continue.
For more info, advice and support about domestic abuse, including coercive control,
visit our dedicated web pages.
Alternatively, you can call the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247. Call us on 999 if you, or someone you know, is in immediate danger.
Sometimes, enough is enough.

Usual Type Fraud Warning
We received a call last week from a very worried woman whose elderly mother had been targeted by suspected rogue traders.
The woman reported that she saw two men pull up at her mother’s home in Cambridge on her doorbell camera. They asked if she wanted her gutters cleaning, but before she could answer, they retrieved a ladder form their van and headed up towards the roof.
The woman said they were up there for less than five minutes before coming back down and demanding £100 payment, which her mother dutifully paid.
She was approached twice more the very same week by people asking if she wanted her gutters clearing. Thankfully, she refused on these occasions and they left.
We often see a spike in reports of rogue trading during the summer months, as people require garden work and home improvements.
Look out for elderly or vulnerable family, friends and neighbours and report anything suspicious. Visit our website for more details:
