A Day of Action – Wisbech – Invitation Please Come to Whittlesey

More than 80 vehicles were escorted to a check site in Wisbech last week by police who were working to disrupt criminality and promote road safety.

Officers from the Roads and Armed Policing Team, supported by the Road Casualty Reduction Team and Moonshot (Automatic Number Plate Recognition), came together with colleagues from Cambridgeshire Constabulary, as well as the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

The action day saw 83 vehicles being escorted to a designated check site in Wisbech. Officers issued 91 Traffic Offence Reports with only four vehicles leaving the site having committed no offences.

On a Lighter Theme….The Tree The Church Didn’t Want…..

Donated via MP Barclay by the Japanese Consulate, orginally planted in St Marys Church Grounds, didn’t fit with their ethos of not being a native tree.
Moved to Ashline Grove , where my wife Connie, gives it some occasional TLC
What a wonderful blossom it has produced for a little tree…

Who’s To Blame -.

I normally stay away from National Politics and am ‘independently minded’ – however today is yet another very bad day for most of us….I have an article from todays ‘Spectator’ –
Only eight months into this session and all we’ve had is basically bad news after more bad news. Whack the pensioners first, Whack the disabled secondly, today on the JV show, better thing are coming…..really…..

The Conversation/Debate Has Begun – Again

Firstly the facts :- Whittlesey Town Council has NOT put up their share of Council Tax/Precept for at least 7 years, I have fully supported this.

Whittlesey Town Council supports more events for our town than any other within Fenland.
The debate happening now is the costs of ‘Hanging Baskets’ around the town, this the Council have paid for, as long as I can remember.
This year the costs have risen considerably (it does go out to tender) and I’m not putting the figures here today – other than more than £10,000 – this year being a commemoration of the 80th anniversaries of VE & VJ.
Just in yesterday the local Boxing Club is struggling for a venue and finances.
Year on year all events cost more…..

So the debate could be do ‘we’ as a Council carry on forever supporting/part sponsoring the multitude of events and organisations who come to us every year.
At some stage the only way to support will be to increase ‘our’ Council Tax.

Already asked – sponsorship, well some take little or no notice, but ALL the Gateway StreetPride projects are sponsored by local businesses and has been so for many years.
‘In-Bloom’ another fanitastic small group of volunteers plant up the Town and Bus Shelter area.

The debate has only just begun, but I dare say many will have their views – perhaps some idea’s or suggestions to help our town look vibrant and welcoming.
