Your March Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to focus on the priorities identified by local communities:
- Tackling vehicle-related anti-social behaviour and road traffic offences
- Disrupting drug activity and safeguarding vulnerable people
- Reducing anti-social behaviour in March town centre
Here’s an update on some of the work that has recently taken place to address these concerns.
Tackling nuisance vehicles and road offences:
Officers have continued to carry out enforcement activity across March, Whittlesey and Chatteris to tackle vehicle-related anti-social behaviour and improve road safety.
This has included issuing fixed penalty notices for inconsiderate parking, carrying out high-visibility patrols and working alongside Community SpeedWatch volunteers.
A multi-agency road safety operation in Chatteris involving several partner organisations resulted in a number of stolen vehicles being recovered and vehicles being seized for offences including driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
Officers have also seized illegally used e-scooters and taken action against motorists driving without insurance, without a valid licence and while disqualified.
Tackling drug-related crime:
The neighbourhood team has continued to carry out proactive patrols and stop searches to disrupt drug-related crime across the district.
During the quarter, officers arrested a man suspected of involvement in the supply of Class A drugs and possession of an imitation firearm following a vehicle stop in March.
Two Closure Orders have also been secured for properties linked to drug-related activity, helping to protect vulnerable people and address concerns raised by local residents.
Reducing anti-social behaviour in March town centre:
Officers continue to work with partner agencies to address anti-social behaviour linked to homelessness, rough sleeping, substance misuse and other low-level offending.
A number of Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices have been issued to individuals responsible for persistent alcohol-related anti-social behaviour, while support has also been offered to help address the causes of offending.
Work is also continuing with partners on a proposed Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) for March town centre, which would provide additional powers to tackle persistent anti-social behaviour.
During the period, officers also took enforcement action against a prolific offender whose behaviour had a significant impact on the town centre community.
