I am emailing to advise that it will be the 3 year anniversary of the attached Dog Public Space Protection Order on the 4th May 2020. (PSPO)
Current legislation only allows for this enforcement to run for 3 years before the Council has to review it and decide to either proceed with a new one or to let the existing one end, not replacing it.
We recognise that dog owners like to be able to walk their dogs in our parks and open spaces and are responsible when doing so; however there is a small minority of irresponsible dog walkers who don’t. This can create a number of issues that residents ask us to deal with. Therefore, we are proposing to renew the Public Spaces Protection Order in its entirety for another 3 years, which will continue to allow the Council to manage our open spaces and take enforcement action with those who do not behave responsibly.
In summary the following activities must continue to be adhered to by the order:
- Dog faeces to be removed from any land to which the public have access.
- Dogs to be put on a lead when requested by an authorised officer.
- Dogs to be on a lead in some open play areas, public facilities, closed cemeteries, and churchyards.
- Dogs to be excluded from fenced/gated play areas and open cemeteries.
We are proposing that the new PSPO will be an updated version of the existing one with no changes to locations or the rules.
By law we are required to enter into a new public consultation to ensure that what we are proposing, reflects the needs of the community. With this in mind a survey will be promoted on our social media pages and website where there is an opportunity to provide individual feedback on this matter. This will be open for a statutory 28 day period.
The link to the survey can be found here;

We welcome feedback from our town and parish Councils and welcome their views on our survey. Also if there is any feedback that they wish to contact me direct with relating to the existing Order and concerns about its renewal please do not hesitate to contact me.
