Johnson’s Lorries Entering & leaving The Saxon Pit

Following received from the Environment Agency.
Thank you for your email of 21 March 2022.

Johnsons Aggregates and Recycling Ltd under environmental permit reference DP3131NM can accept and store Incinerator Bottom Ash (IBA), however, as you are aware there is currently no relevant planning permission is place for the proposed activities. Any suspected breach of planning legislation is a matter for Cambridgeshire County Council to investigate.

The operator has been transporting processed IBA to Saxon Pit from their other permitted sites. This is because once fully recovered to meet a specific criteria, IBA becomes known as Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA).  IBAA is not waste and can be accepted on site and used as a substitute for aggregate to form a sub-base for installing further concrete.
I suspect this is what the lorries seen entering and leaving site are associated with as concrete extension works continue.

No waste was stored on site during my visit on 14 March 2022.

Kind regards,
Senior Environment Officer – Bedford waste team
