Roy G (Update)

Again thank you to all who have sent their best wishes for my recovery.

I’ll not go into detail, other than I was admitted into hospital for 8 days and came out last week for further (many more) tests.

It has been a very challenging time and I am ‘lucky’ to be back, although it will take some time.

My Council and Community work are on hold at present until I’m feeling much better and again my thanks to all the other Councillors who have taken on my workload.

Timmy The Tortoise 70+ years young.

KD X Update From CCC

Roadworks progress on Ralph Butcher Causeway in Whittlesey.

Cambridgeshire County Council has given an update on the ongoing roadworks on the Ralph Butcher Causeway in Whittlesey, which has had an emergency lane closure in place for more than a year.

Work, which started on Monday, July 7 and is expected to be completed by December 8, is continuing as planned on the King’s Dyke embankment.

Permanent soil nails are now being installed, and 43 have been put in place so far.

There continues to be regular monitoring of the cracks, and the current lane closure will remain in place for the duration of the works, with a full road closure not needed.

Once the work is complete, the road will fully re-open to two-way running for around three months, before the carriageway is fully resurfaced as the final step.

The westbound carriageway at King’s Dyke, heading to Peterborough, was closed last July due to cracks, with two-way traffic lights in place.
In October and November last year, testing and monitoring took place to understand the cracking, movement and settlement issues, and in January, the council said work would start in May and hopefully be completed by September.

However, in May, further cracks had appeared in the road surface near the centre of the carriageway, meaning the works were pushed back two months.

Market Square Clean-Up (As Usual Not Everyone Happy!)

The question could be is Whittlesey special, in that no matter what is done, there is always someone not ‘happy’ with it….could ‘we’ be the most unhappy place in the country I wonder?

Yesterday saw the clean up (sort of) of The Market Place/Square, with an enhanced pressure wash.

(pictures taken today – I haven’t seen it for myself as yet)

Thanks CKoo

Highways Communications Step Up A Gear.

We have recently published a report highlighting the improvements made to Cambridgeshire’s highways network

The report shows:

  • Since 2023/24, the amount Cambridgeshire County Council spends on highway maintenance has increased by over 140%, from £24m to £59m.
  • Building on last year’s record investment, the council has allocated more than ÂŁ73m for highways maintenance in 2025/26.
  • Over the last five years, the council has repaired an average of 55,400 individual potholes each year.

We have also developed a webpage to highlight other improvements that are moving ahead this year, including 259 schemes to repair 135km of road and 253 schemes to repair key walking and cycling routes county-wide.

We encourage you to visit the webpage and share the link with your community. From now on, the report and the webpage will be updated every year to make sure we communicate openly and transparently with everyone who uses Cambridgeshire’s highways network.

You can also watch our video YouTube to see highlights from 2024 and 2025 and find out what is coming up this year.
