Sir Harry Smith Community College, Whittlesey, has been handed a stinging assessment by Ofsted inspectors, who found that the school “requires improvement” in every key area, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and sixth-form provision.

The inspection, conducted on 30 September, 1 October, and 6 October 2025, paints a picture of a school struggling to deliver consistently high standards for its pupils.

A flood warning has been issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood warning in force: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, East of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

Flooding is expected for: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the West of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice

High river levels are expected to cause flooding this evening.

Flooding is expected from the evening of 16 November 2025.

No further rainfall is forecast, however river levels are expected to remain high due to tide lock.
During periods of high tide the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions.

This is likely to lead to localised flooding of the North Bank Road, between Peterborough and Rings End.
Whilst this Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media.

We are closely monitoring the situation.

Please do not drive through floodwater as bow waves may affect adjacent properties.

This message will be updated by 9:00PM on 16 November 2025 or as the situation changes.
