Coming VJ Day Celebrations – 08th June

More information as the date approaches.

In honour of the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the Prime Minister announced this week that pubs and bars in England and Wales will be able to stay open for an extra two hours until 1AM on 8 May, allowing more time to “raise a glass to all the men and women who served their country, both overseas and at home”.

But there are also plenty of other ways to get involved in the #VE80 celebrations – find an event taking place in your community, discover VE Day inspired baking recipes or download street party planning tips and tricks.

You could also show us how you’re getting into the VE Day spirit by entering Tip Top Towns. Share pictures on social media demonstrating how your community, town, village or city is coming together to decorate, celebrate and spruce up communal spaces.
Don’t forget to tag #VE80!

Members of the public are invited to line the Mall to watch the VE Day 80 military procession taking place on Monday 5 May in London.

Beginning at noon, more than 1,300 members of the Armed Forces, Uniformed Services and Uniformed Youth will march from Parliament Square to Buckingham Palace. A military fly past featuring the Red Arrows and 24 current and historic military aircraft will follow after the procession concludes.

A remembrance service will take place at Westminster Abbey to mark VE Day on 8 May, followed by A Celebration to Remember concert that evening on Horse Guards Parade where stars of stage and screen will tell the story of the end of the war. The commemorations will be broadcast on BBC One.

If you’re planning to attend, you can also read our guidance about where events are taking place and how to prepare.

Update #2 Stagecoach Bus Concerns

There has been 468 supporters registering on this petition as of this morning 25th

We need to keep the momentum going….We need at least 1,000+ supporters.

From Cllr Barry Wainwright..
I have created this petition at

 https://www.petitions.net/oppose_bus_route_cuts_in_rural_whittlesey

as a first step to oppose these cuts

Rural Communities Need Sustainable Public Transport

The residents of the rural areas to the east of Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire, learned with dismay on Thursday 17th April that Stagecoach were ‘considering’ the amalgamation of routes 31 and 33, with the implied loss of a bus service for Eastrea, Coates and the rural communities between Whittlesey and March.

Since that time sources within Stagecoach are suggesting that the plans may be even more advanced than the Stagecoach press release indicated. Reports are emerging that the decision is not only already made, but has an implementation date of 31st August 2025.

This petition calls upon the Mayor of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority to make strenuous efforts to resist this change and encourage Stagecoach to continue to provide a service for the 7,500 residents of that region who will have no other recourse, apart from private car, for their daily journeys.

Please sign the petition, the loss or amalgamation of routes 31 & 33 will have a serious effect on rural residents, who are already NOT well served by public transport…

You Asked For It – The Police Are Giving It – Parking Tickets

Our patrols to address illegal parking in Whittlesey continued last week.

On one occasion, four tickets were issued to cars parked on double yellow lines in Falcon Lane and St Marys Street.

There are plenty of free car parks and places to park in Whittlesey, even if it means walking a little further to your destination.

Illegal parking in the town is an issue that you have highlighted to us at our monthly police surgeries, and these regular patrols will continue, with tickets being issued to those found to be parked obstructively.

If you have any concerns, you can let us know here.

Dr Haq’s Response to Angry Resident…..

Although I am NOT a supporter of Dr. Haq in any way…Any of us that are prepared to put our head above the parapet are worthy people.

Sometimes emotions get the better of people, as I’ve said on many occasions, we
(In many cases Volunteers unpaid) should not be subject to verbal or physical abuse.
Unfortunately it’s a fact of political life at all levels…
