What you should consider doing now

* Flood water may still be around for several days. Take care as there may be hidden dangers in the flood water like sharp objects, raised manhole covers and pollution.

Ex Head Master to Retire

Mr Jonathan Digby has announced he will be retiring as of 31st August 2020
He led as Head of Sir Harry Smith Community College from 2008 to 2016 and since has been the CEO of 3 schools (Aspire Learning Trust).

“I have been lucky to work with some wonderful colleagues who have dedicated their lives to helping our children get the very best education that they can. I would like to thank all those who have helped and supported me in all my years both at the College and more recently working with our two primary schools. It has been a team effort and I have learnt so much from colleagues over the last eleven years”

RG – I would like to share my appreciation and thanks to a ‘fantastic’ Head Master – who through his leadership, inspiration and motivation has given many of our children the opportunities that I am sure will help them on the road to becoming young adults.
The ‘team Digby’ has achieved extremely good results.

Jonathan has engaged with so many organisations in our town and has always kept us up to date with the latest developments – Happy retirement.

Road Repairs….

Good afternoon all,
Apologies for the late update regarding the completion of B1040 Herne Road.

Further to the below email, I can confirm that we have completed the resurfacing on B1040 Herne Road and the road closure was lifted last week. We are however still on site under lights finishing off the footpath alongside. Unfortunately we weren’t able to complete all our planned works under the closure.
Work on the B1095 Milk and Water Drove commenced this morning, and will last for 5 weeks. This will be under a 24/7 closure for the first 2.5 weeks, and the diversion route is via the A605. The road will be closed to through traffic from the Peterborough / Cambridgeshire border to near the junction with Kings Delph Drove. Following on from this, we will be working during the day (0730 – 1830), from Kings Delph Drove to near Harvest Barn Farm shop in sections, but the route will be left open to local traffic overnight, and at weekends.

Please note however that due to weather, we may have to work weekends or nights to stay on programme. We will try to avoid doing this wherever possible.

All affected residents and businesses have been letter dropped, and separate updates have been set up out via email to them.
Work on the A1101 is progressing well, we expect to have the final section of road resurfaced by the end of this week. We are then aiming to have the road open from 24/10 onwards once we have installed all the road markings, studs, and tidied up the site. In addition to the original scope, which was to repair roughly 18,000 square metres, we have added an additional 9000 square metres in between the deeper reconstruction sections.

Further information on the work can be found at the following web page – https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/travel-roads-and-parking/transport-projects/resurfacing-works/

Kind regards
Joshua Rutherford
Project Manager.

Good Community Safety Event – Today…..

The rain kept many away today at Whittlesey Library/Learning Centre. We were joined by Mike Brookes from Cambs Policing Crime Reduction Team and Rosie Cooke, Community Safety Projects Officer and John (PCSO) from Fenland Neighbourhood Policing Team.
Myself and Robin Sutton representing Whittlesey/Cambs NHW.

Two really good results, Mike informs me that all Speed Camera’s in situ at present will be upgraded to the latest digital technology in the near future, so, our (several) dormant Speed Camera’s will be included.

John (PCSO) replaces Shane Green, and has 15 year of experience being previously based in Ely. Today he did a tour around the Town Centre and gave several parking tickets to those who had ‘parked’ themselves on double yellow lines for well over an hour.
Surprisingly (Not), as he was issuing a ‘ticket’ the ‘Car Driver’ miraculously appeared as by magic…..too late – Ticket issued can not be rescinded – Cough Up….Don’t park for an hour or more on Double Yellow Lines……

The next Whittlesey Neighbourhood Watch meeting will be on Thursday 12th December
@ 7pm – Whittlesey Town Council Offices (Peel House)….Open meeting anyone can attend.
