Not In Last Place – Not Even Mentioned –

To say I have been inundated with complaints about FDC/CA (Fenland District Council/Combined Authority) latest press release is an understatement.
Those who came to me – are asking the wrong person – sorry I am doing my best but it was the Leader of FDC Cllr Chris Boden who made the communication – I am not a FDC Councillor but as you are very aware lobby at all levels and continue to do so.
Not in last place as Whittlesey appears to always be (except when there’s some bad news) – but not even a sniff of a mention, especially again after the ‘recent’ Master Plan communications.
On yet another communication – yesterday…

I just thought I would let you know that one horse Whittlesey continues to be exactly that, today  I had to go to the dentists in Yaxley for 9am left at 8-15 stopped outside the Letter B for 15 minutes turned round and went to the A605 and sat opposite the West End store for 20 minutes, gave up about  8-50 and came home, re-booked for a later appointment.
It must be very frustrating if you have to do that every day. I gather the drugs trade is thriving in Whittlesey, ++++ was telling me a few days ago that there was a lot of Russians attacking a house at am in the Limes to take over the cannabis that was growing in the house, police turned up after half an hour and it was all over and moved to West End.
All the best from one Horse Whittlesey (OHW)

RG Very sorry but I would think we’re a NO Horse Town the way things are going – just as frustrating for me….

The End – Maybe Of Supermarket Travesty

The ruling of Whitacre vs Sainsbury’s is now in the public domain.
As many know I have reported nearly every meeting which was open to the public and Council Meetings since this – I always use the term ‘Travesty’ came about.

There is a partial article in Cambs Times © This is not the full paperwork.

Many will comment on who/why/how maybe responsible for this ‘Travesty’

My advise is to be careful as there could be an appeal and anything which is in the public doman (including me) could be seen to jeopardize any potential proceedings.

Within the article that Editor Mr. Elworthy quotes – The Judge does mention Ex FDC Leader Alan Melton and is not very compliamentary. Read the article. Click Here

There is only one winner at present and that is Sainbury’s – Whittlesey – Its surrounding Villages have lost out – The potential of a Country Park. A Business Park and the posibility of a new health centre has all but gone….

I will make further comment later –

Disclaimer: I have held shares in Sainbury’s, Tesco, Morrison and Marks & Spencers for over 25 years – I do not vote in any of their AGM’s

Any ‘Real’ Clever 11 to 17 Year Old Wizzers In Whittlesey

Most of you will know that I am the fraud and cyber security advisor for Cambridgeshire Police, however, I also have another role in support of a national programme led by the National Crime Agency called ‘Cyber Choices’.

Cyber Choices is designed to raise the awareness amongst young people of the Computer Misuse Act 1990 and to encourage and develop young people into the cyber security industry.

If you know or have children between the ages of 11 and 17 years, then I wanted to make you aware of an exciting national police cyber competition being supported by Cambridgeshire Police called ‘The Matrix Challenge’.

The Matrix Challenge online qualification game went live on the 20th of January 2020, and will run for 4 weeks. It takes around 30 minutes to complete and covers 5 key topics, Computer Misuse Act 1990, staying safe online, steganography, fault finding in lines of code and cracking a cipher. The challenge will also include a timed multiple choice quiz.

The top online entries in the eastern region will then be invited to attend a regional semi-final day which will be held in Bedford. The top 3 competitors in each age category (11-14 and 15-17) will then be selected for a UK grand final in July 2020 where top technology prizes and the chance to be crowned The Matrix Challenge Champion.

I am pleased to announce that Vodafone will be the national key sponsor for the final.

So far, 222 young people across Cambridgeshire have entered, so I would just like to raise your awareness of the competition and encourage your family and friends to register and take the initial 30 minute challenge. Entrants do not need to be computer experts, but like a challenge, some excitement and fun.

For full details and to take the challenge, please visit:

www.matrix-challenge.uk

There is also a video on the website which highlights last year’s challenge.

Fly-Tipper(s) – Just Love This Spot

Seems to be quite regular now – some sort of DIYer or Job Builder to dump their waste along this stretch of road- although on this occasion it was a ‘tidy job’ all the rubbish in the bath….

Boris has the answers to The K D Xing….

I was sent the following from ‘The Mail on Sunday’© maybe ‘we’ should ask for direct intervention – it may get done quicker…..The Chinese can build a 1,000 patient hospital in 10 days…..

Now that Brexit has been delivered, Boris Johnson has decided to start building bridges. Literally. ‘New infrastructure is going to be at the heart of No 10’s agenda,’ says a Government insider, ‘and a big part of that is going to be building new bridges.

‘Everywhere there is a major river without a bridge, we’re going to construct one. It’s a way of improving transport connectivity, but crucially, it’s also a way of securing the future of the British steel industry. That’s why HS2 is going to get the go-ahead, and we’re going to start reversing the Beeching rail cuts.’
I’m told Boris Bridges are part of a ten-year strategy for enshrining the PM’s political legacy. ‘Our rule is going to be “do something they can see”. The view is Labour’s nowhere, so we’ve got the time. Sajid Javid is terrified of being given the chop, so he’s going to sign off on spending. And it means we can really start building the foundations in those Labour seats we won in December.’

Message from Whittlesea Station Adopter….

Received from Cllr Eamonn Dorling…
I received the following from our long standing station adopter who works tirelessly promoting our station, we could assist his efforts by responding to his request:

Did you see the link that I put on facebook for a survey by East Midlands Trains.

It would be useful if all the councillors completed this so that East Midlands Trains know the strength of feeling in Whittlesey.
East Midlands are about to change all their time-tables so the survey/questionnaire presents us with a good opportunity to persuade them to stop more of their trains at Whittlesea. At the moment only one East Midlands train stops each day.
(the 0812 to Liverpool), the rest pass straight through.

I was at a meeting recently where the East Midlands representative (Donna Adams) was asking us to complete the questionnaire, so she was keen for us to express our views.

Even 2 or 3 more stops per day would be a great benefit, especially if it was during rush hour periods. Tea time is particularly bad with no connection from Ely after the 1700 GA departs meaning that there is no possibility of people commuting home from Cambridge.
We also have a 2 hour gap from Peterborough as there is a 1750 departure from Peterborough but then a gap until the 1950. This means that most people who commute to London have no connection once they arrive in Peterborough, so they have to drive to Peterborough and park.

Thanks for your support Eamonn!, we will keep fighting until we succeed!
From Geoff

88K Lost To Courier Fraud In Cambs in January

This is not the ‘real’ figure as not everyone who has been a victim reports the incident. (RG)

You may recall earlier this month we warned of ‘courier fraud’ scams where fraudsters pose as a police officer or bank official to persuade their often elderly and vulnerable victims to hand over large amounts of cash.

We have been made aware of seven separate instances where people across Cambridgeshire have lost almost £88,000 to courier fraud this month alone.
In six out of the seven instances this month, the fraudster has cold-called the victim by telephone posing as a police officer claiming they had someone in custody as part of a fraud investigation.

The bogus officer told the victim there was an issue with their bank account or requested their assistance with an ongoing investigation. The ultimate aim of the call being to lure the victim into withdrawing cash from their bank and later handing over money to a courier.
On the other occasion the fraudster has claimed to be from the tax office, claiming the victim owed in excess of £10,000 and would be arrested if they didn’t pay the outstanding balance. In this instance the victim was told to hand over cash and also purchase thousands of pounds worth of Amazon vouchers from a supermarket.

Criminals are increasingly turning to vouchers as a method of obtaining funds since these are much more difficult to trace than banking transactions.
Between 18 and 26 January five victims in the East Cambs area lost a total of £78,500 and on two occasions in Peterborough, on 8 and 24 January, two people lost a combined £9,000.

This recent spate of courier fraud is appalling and must be stopped. Not only is the financial detriment significant, these crimes often have a devastating impact on the health and wellbeing of the victims and their families.
Whilst the latest reported incidents are all in the same two areas, it is likely the scammers are working through a list organised by postcode and therefore there is a strong chance this scam will appear in other areas too. We urge residents to please be vigilant to this and pass the message on so others can be vigilant too.

Please remember your bank and the police would:

  • Never ask for your bank account details or PIN over the phone
  • Never ask you to withdraw money and send it to them
  • Never ask you to send them your bank cards or any other personal property

Further information about courier fraud can be found on our website here http://bit.ly/35W0NYB.

If you are suspicious about a telephone conversation you should end the call and contact us via our non-emergency number, 101. Ideally use a mobile phone or a friend’s phone or wait at least five minutes before calling to ensure you aren’t reconnected to the offender.

To report an incident in action or if you are in immediate danger always call 999.

Community groups and individuals are invited to become a registered supporter of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Against Scams Partnership. Supporters receive information about the latest scams and funding or training opportunities and are provided with resources to increase scams awareness in their local community. For more information visit www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/against-scams or contact Charlotte Homent on 01954 284635.
Our Cyber Security Advisor is available to present to different community groups on how to protect themselves from scams. Enquiries should be made via email to CyberProtectCambs@cambs.pnn.police.uk.
Please help us spread this message as far and wide as possible to prevent further losses to those in our community.

Parody II -Time MP Steve Barclay Updated His Website-KD X

https://www.stevebarclay.net/campaigns/kings-dyke

‘Some’ say out of date and out of touch with his Whittlesey constituents…..make your own mind up….but then with his majority why would he…..!!!! be looking for a new job….

See below © Steve Barclay MP
For many years, the railway level crossing at Kings Dyke has caused tailbacks and frustration for many motorists facing delays. Working with local councillors we built the case for funding which was finally confirmed in full this year by the Combined Authority. Work is now well-progressed on the project which is due to be open for motorists by the end of 2020.

Kings Dyke update – 18-6-19

I was very concerned to learn there is a further delay on the Kings Dyke crossing.  I am working with Cambridgeshire County Council to understand how this has happened.  The Council is currently considering recently received and revised projections on costs and timings from its contractor, Kier, before it assesses options available to move this important project forward. It will continue to do this in full consultation with the Combined Authority.

The delays at the level crossing are a great source of frustration for Whittlesey residents and businesses and I have been assured by the Leader of Cambridgeshire County Council, Cllr Steve Count, that he is actively taking steps to ensure that the Combined Authority and County Council work together constructively to progress this important infrastructure project as quickly as possible for the benefit of Whittlesey and the whole of Fenland. I will be monitoring progress very closely to ensure the work continues to move forward.
