Some Very Good News – Pondersbridge

For a number of years, residents of Ponderbridge have complained about speeding issues.
There is an active ‘Speed-Watch’ group who have ‘clocked’ vehicles going at more than 70mph through the village.
(30mph speed limit).

Cambs CC Cllr David Connor has for some time been trying to raise funding for a LHI – (Local Highway Improvements)

He has successfully obtained a commitment from PCC Jason Ablewhite, Cambs CC and Whittlesey TC – however WTC Councillors thought that Ramsey Town Council should also contribute to the scheme. At Ramsey TC last month a formal proposal was passed and agreed to fund up to £3,000 towards the LHI traffic calming scheme at Pondersbridge.
WTC  Cllr Miscandlon and Whitewell both spoke in favour at the meeting.

Hare Coursing in Fenland – Believe it Happens…

We are encouraging the public to do their part for rural communities and help tackle hare coursing.
The hare coursing season typically starts in September when fields have been harvested, however the weather this year has meant many have already been cut and are now prime surfaces for the blood sport.

Over the past year (April 2018 – March 2019) police were called to 1,265 incidents. In the past month (July) the force control room have received 34 calls to courses operating throughout east and south Cambridgeshire as well as Fenland. The figure is expected to rise over the coming months.
Hare coursing, illegal under the Hunting Act 2004, causes damage to crops, harms animals and threatens the rural community, often resulting in intimidation and in some cases violence.

In October last year four hare coursers were handed the Cambridgeshire’s first county court injunction, banning them from entering any farm land from July until March.
Hare coursing continues to be one of the biggest issues our rural communities face.
Tackling it remains a priority for the Rural Crime Action Team (RCAT) and we will continue to do what we can to bring those responsible to justice but we need your help.

The most obvious sign of hare coursing is a group of vehicles parked in a rural area with dogs, perhaps by a gateway to farmland or on a grass verge, and I would urge people to report any suspicions, no matter how insignificant it may seem.
Those caught could face a criminal behaviour order, seizure of vehicles and other property, a fine and a driving ban.

The appeal is part of our #SaferSummer campaign, which aims to prevent crime and keep people safe during the school holidays.
Landowners are urged to consider blocking entrances to their fields with ditches, fencing or trees or even barriers like barrels filled with concrete.

Anyone who sees hare coursing taking place is asked to contact police immediately on 999 and provide officers with a description of the people involved, any registration numbers and vehicle descriptions and the location and direction of travel.
Its important people don’t confront hare coursers or put themselves at risk.

If you have information about hare coursing and it’s not currently happening, or have been a victim of the crime, please call 101 or report online at www.cambs.police.uk/report.

If a crime is in progress call 999.
Kind Regards,
DC Tom Nuttall
Rural Crime Action Team

Fly Tipping & Litter Bugs at it Again….

As my previous post 2o like minded considerate volunteers cleared up another vast amount of discarded litter and rubbish along Mortons Leame and Thorney Road.
Passing today I see since then some ‘kind’ person(s) have dumped bottles/cans/beer cases just beside the area the Rubbish bags were left…. how very kind of them.

A regular Fly-tipping area – Decoy Lake Road has again seen plenty of activity.
It has been reported and as said on many occasions FDC Rapid Response Team do a fantastic job of removing it – at the rate payers expense.

Telephone Scam Alert

We have received a recent report from a CAPASP supporter and Good Neighbour that there is a very persistent new version of the HMRC and Mastercard telephone scams that I have recently alerted to you. The new version is an automated call stating that the resident’s internet provider is going to terminate their services and that you must press 1 to be connected to an ‘executive advisor’. Our informant tells us that they received this call 8 times in one morning alone.
As before, please pass on this message far and wide to alert others within your community. The simple advice is to not press 1, or any other key that is instructed, but to simply hang up as I suspect there would be a hefty connection charge or a very threatening or persuasive person awaiting your attention.

Thank you for your continued support.
Best wishes for a lovely and scam-free weekend,

Charlotte Homent

Fraudsters Targeting Social Media Influencers
Be Aware

The National Fraud Intelligence Bureau has received intelligence to suggest that fraudsters are contacting social media influencers, based in the UK and abroad, offering them the opportunity to market a bogus product, service or investment opportunity.

Fraudsters will present professional and credible pitches to the social media influencers and try to convince them to feature the opportunity for a fee on their social media profiles in order to entice unsuspecting followers of the influencer to sign up or make a purchase.

Additionally, fraudsters are using the names of well-known public figures, implying that their opportunity or product is endorsed by the figure when it is not.

The public should be aware that any apparent endorsement by celebrities, influencers or personalities does not necessarily mean that an investment, product or service is genuine. The public is urged to exercise a cautious approach to any such offer of investment, product or service with the same caution they would at any other time.

What You Need To Do

  • If you are purchasing goods from a company you don’t know and trust, carry out some research first, or ask friends or family for advice before completing a purchase.
  • Professional-looking websites, adverts or social media posts do not guarantee that an investment opportunity or product is genuine. Criminals can exploit the names of well-known brands or individuals to make them appear legitimate.
  • Avoid paying for goods or services by bank transfer unless you know and trust the person or company. Payments via bank transfer offer you no protection if you become a victim of fraud. Instead, use your credit card or payment services such as PayPal as they offer you greater protection if you become a victim of fraud.

KD Crossing – Cllr Count Video – Could this be Damage Limitation

I will make some further comment after viewing the video in more detail, that CCC leader Steve Count has published on Cambs YouTube… Whilst I may accept Cllr Count ability to try and mitigate the problems of the KD Bridge project away from the County Council purely onto Kier the would be constructors…..
This could also be seen as a very clever ploy to what seems to be a

‘Damage limitation exercise’ on behalf of Cllr Count our own County Councillors Bowden and Connor plus the somewhat discredited County Council themselves.
(see previous article CCC & Lessons will/must be learnt)

I wondered ‘when’ the blame culture would start – and it has already begun.
Whittlesey residents will make up their own minds and opinions on how this project has been handled, I have reported on this project since 2013 and have been very fair and factual given the limited information that was given to me/us.

I very much welcome Cllr Steve Count coming at long last to Whittlesey to meet with the residents – Thank You….

I Just Dislike The Phrase – Lessons Will Be Learnt !!!!

PM Cameron favourite phrase, (almost daily), so thanks to LD for the research recently into Cambs CC ‘Ely By-Pass’ project and the large overspend.

The headline in the Ely Standard™©CCC report reveals ‘time pressures’ were to blame for the Ely bypass overspend .

I wonder if any similarities can be drawn with our own Kings Dyke Crossing fiasco !

A Cambridgeshire County Council’s “lessons learned” report on the project shows costs rose by 36 per cent.

The final cost was £48,910,380, with an additional £13m allocated during construction in order to achieve completion.

The report made six recommendations to prevent similar issues from recurring, including that in future the relevant county council committee should be better informed of progress and issues, and that staff pressured to pursue actions “that do not follow normal governance rules” should manage or escalate those concerns.

To read the whole article (3 minutes max) go to the Ely Standard website Click Here
Almost daily for years we hear of some politician or local government officials telling an enquiry ‘That Lessons need to be learnt’ – I doubt that very much….otherwise we wouldn’t keep getting repeat after repeat….
Considering KD Crossing costs started at £13.1 million and now stands somewhere! in the region of £39+ million, I make that somewhere in the region of 300% increase not 36% as in the case of the Ely project…..of course ‘we’ could learn some lessons from the man himself now Mr C….
