Kings Dyke crossing opens on Monday – 50 years after campaign began,
Whittlesey, Peterborough Saturday 09 July 2022.
As usual grateful to Cllr Barry Wainwright for supplying information.
The deteriorating state of this building has been the subject of many discussions at Whittlesey Town Council and at Fenland District Council for a long time. Those discussions, at times, becoming somewhat acrimonious.
Despite several mis-steps along the way, it is satisfying to be able to note that there is – at last – significant progress being made, which I am happy to share here to all councillors that they may be aware of the current state of play if challenged.
I have been made aware that FDC have now issued two legal notices to several people and organisations who have an interest in the building.
The first of these is a Listed Building Enforcement Notice (LBEN) requiring the owner to make a list of six changes and improvements to the building to retore it to its listed condition. The second notice is a Planning Enforcement Notice (commonly known as a Section 215 Notice), listing eight improvements that need to be made.
Both of these notices have been served on a list of eleven people or organisations who may have a controlling interest in part or all of the building.
The notices are dated the 29th December 2025, and there is a period of grace to allow the recipients to appeal the notice before they become effective on the 1st February 2026.
From the effective date of 1st February, if the notice is uncontested, the improvement MUST be carried out within the specified timescale (three months for the majority fo improvements, six months for some of the more complex repairs) under penatly of further enforcement action and costs.
I can provide copies of the notices for anyone interested.
Best regards,
Councillor Barry Wainwright

Ghoster-BW-Sundays….
Roy, this is huge! Thanks to you — and over 60,000 others who took action — the government is being forced to confront the toxic sewage sludge scandal.
Just before Christmas, the Minister for Water, Emma Hardy, personally came outside the Defra offices to receive the petition.
She listened to your calls for action on toxic sludge, and confirmed the government is committed to addressing toxic sludge as part of its Environmental Improvement Plan.
Public pressure is working and it’s all thanks to people like you Roy, signing the petition. The petition is still open, so will you share it now and help build this campaign?

For years, toxic sludge has been spread across the UK – polluting rivers and contaminating the soil that grows our food – while water companies have been getting away with it.
Together we’ve forced the government to confront this scandal.
This campaign is moving because people like you are refusing to stay silent. And now we won’t stop until water companies are held to account and real change is delivered.
Every new signature sends a clear message:
The public will not accept toxic waste being dumped on land, threatening rivers, wildlife and human health.
Will you help build the pressure and make sure the government acts?
Thank you for standing up for our rivers and nature,
Sophie and Amy.

Update 9th January:
Jones Bros, the contractors responsible for the remedial work at King’s Dyke, have provided an extremely disappointing update to the County Council.
Despite holding the contractor to account and applying the maximum possible pressure we can to conclude these works quickly, and to the quality and safety standards we expect, Jones Bros have told us the programme will be further delayed by a month.
The additional month is required, according to Jones Bros, because of a combination of both delivery and weather issues. They have made changes to their subcontractors to deliver the works more efficiently and to the standards expected. However, even with this change in their arrangements, they have stated that the cold weather has prevented the sprayed concrete works from restarting as had been expected. As a result, the work now isn’t expected to be completed until end of February.
This update clearly falls well short of our expectations, and we consider this news to be deeply disappointing.
We fully share the frustration of residents and road users alike.
We will continue to do everything we can to compel this work to be completed and the road re-opened as soon as possible, as safely as possible.
We will continue to provide progress updates, with the next one due on 21 January.
(RG Note :- Lots of …… We, We, Wee’s!!!!!)
Comment from Cllr Mockett….
Pleased to be honest.
Better to keep it closed than open it and then close it again.
Issue here is when you put pressure on the contractor you get unreliable completion times. Until we really know 100% what the issues are and have been it’s hard to criticise them. What we should be focusing on is ensuring we don’t take ownership until we are certain all issues are resolved.
This has most likely been stipulated so leads to delays.
Jason Mockett.

Regularly, ‘Keyboard Warriors’ post problems and issues on social media….
They have the time – resource to spend hours trolling around but for some unknown reason cannot or do not know how to report simple things to the proper authorities.
It does annoy me to say the least – yes the below came to my attention earlier today and I reported it to FDC Enviro team immediately, and have had a reply….
All very well but even we Councillors only have so much time……and not on social media.
Have a look at the FDC report website portal below.
