Guided walk on the Fen Edge Trail 6th October

The Fen Edge Walk from Swaffham Bulbeck to Reach

There are a few spaces left on this walk if anyone would like to join us (details below). If you do wish to book a place, please reply to this address. (Note that non Cambs Geological Society members are charged £3.)
Starting at the north east edge of Swaffham Bulbeck, this route takes you along the Fen Edge escarpment formed by the harder bands of Chalk through some very attractive local villages. It approaches Reach by swinging round an extensively quarried hill (capped by Totternhoe Stone), then along the catchwater lode, to enter Reach through its Roman port. The walk ends by catching a view of the quarry itself. There is a bus that can return you to Swaffham Bulbeck just in time for refreshments at the Black Horse (check opening times).

Duration about 3 hours starting at 9:30 am from Swaffham Bulbeck. More details will be sent on booking.

To get a taste of the walk, see the Walk Guide available to view and download here.

KD X Update 011021

Very good to see that Ex Councillor Ralph Butcher has been acknowledged by serving Councillors at Fenland District Council (Cambs Times©).
Many other members of the public, including myslef lobbied over 40 years for this to happen.

An update from the King’s Dyke project team:

We have now completed work on the drainage systems (pictured right) for the portion of road to the north of the railway bridge, which runs up towards the eastern tie-in.

On the same section, we are well underway with the work on the ducts that will house the electrical cabling for the street lighting (pictured left), with completion expected on this element soon.
Any open excavations, such as those pictured, are made safe using appropriate coverings when not being worked on.

Our attention is now shifting to constructing the drainage systems at the western end of the scheme

WTC LHI Meeting

Today a number of Councillors met to discuse and review next years submission to
Cambs CC for Local Highways Improvements (LHI’s).

A Town Council like ours can submit up to 2 such applications to a value of £15,000 each, the contribition we have to make is 10% of the application.
LHI’s can be ‘Yellow Lines’ – Paths – Road Safety Improvements and Speed Limits to name a few.
Just because an application is made, doesn’t mean it will either be accepted or meet the CCC criteria.
Most LHI’s are at the suggestion of the public/electorate.
