Beware Of Council Energy Tax Rebate – SCAM

Please refer to my article below – on how scheme works…

Please be aware
of scam phone calls, texts and emails circulating, concerning the £150 Council Tax rebate. People are being asked to give their bank details to receive the rebate. Local councils say they would never cold call, text or email you and ask for your bank details to make the payment.

Please do not give out your bank details – this a tactic scammers are reportedly using to try and prise sensitive financial details off you for criminal activity purposes.

The council tax rebate scheme was announced by the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak to help people with rising energy bills. All eligible households in England in council tax bands A to D, should get the £150 payment from their District Council from April this year. If you currently pay your council tax by direct debit, you should automatically get the rebate payment into your bank account without needing to take any action. If you don’t pay by direct debit, local authorities are working out the best way to get the rebate to you and they will write to you letting you know what will happen.
