Do You Know Where To Report Scam Messages?

Fake emails and text messages are a common tactic used by cyber criminals, their goal is often to convince you to click a link. Once clicked, you may be sent to a dodgy website which could download viruses onto your computer, or steal your passwords and personal information.

In order to try and convince you that their messages are legitimate, criminals will pretend to be someone you trust, or from some organisation you trust. This could be your Internet Service Provider (ISP), local council, even a friend in need. And they may contact you by phone call, email or text message.

Reporting suspicious emails:

If you have received an email which you’re not quite sure about, you can report it by forwarding the email to the Suspicious Email Reporting Service at: report@phishing.gov.uk

As of 31st October 2021, the number of suspicious email reports stands at more than 8,100,000, with the removal of more than 67,000 scams and 124,000 URLs.

Thank you for your continued support.

*In a small number of cases, an email may not reach our service due to it already being widely recognised by spam detection services. The vast majority of reports do reach our system so please keep reporting any suspicious emails you receive.

Reporting suspicious text messages:

You can report suspicious text messages to your mobile network provider, for free, by forwarding the text to 7726.

If you forward a text, your provider can investigate the origin of the text and take action, if found to be malicious. If 7726 doesn’t work, you can find out how to report a text message by contacting your provider.

(On many Android devices and iPhones, pressing and holding on the message bubble should present the option to forward the message)

WTC Council Report # 3 Whittlesey Emergency Food Aid.

My apologies, having missed this of the Whittlesey Town Council report #1.

Also discussed was the Whittlesey Emergency Food Aid program, ealier this month a great deal of ‘misinformation’ being given out on Social Media.
I did cover the situation at the time.

The WEGA program is still operating as per normal and a new constitution/committee which will include Cllr David Mason, Cllr Mrs Julie Windle, Sue and Joe Jennings, following the departure/retirement of Brian Smithyman and Marija Lysak.

If anyone needs assistance leading up to Christmas and beyond please contact Sue Jennings on 07594 294971

Saxon Pit – Johnson Aggregates Planning Application.

I hope that all of the residents that made comments in the consultation have received the latest letter from Cambs CC.
I included an attachment, it is self-explanatory, in that all previous comments/concerns are still valid to go forward, when
the application comes up for planning at committee at Cambs CC.
Only any new objections/concerns will be valid. Any comments need to be received by midnight tomorrow 17th December.

When the application comes to Cambs CC Planning Committee, I hope that someone from Whittlesey Town Council will
be present and represent the community concerns. That said, under the revised paperwork, several of the issues/concerns that we/residents commented on have been addressed and this was a very good result.

It is my understanding that the applicant has spent several £Million already in getting the site ready, so they must feel very confident of obtaining planning permission.

I will naturally liaise with all Whittlesey Town/District/County Councillors on this and any further applications that come for the site.

In recent weeks there has been a lot of ‘social media’ coverage concerning bad odours and smells emanating from the area.
On communicating with the Environment Agency, who investigated the issue, stated it was not coming from either the area that is being
re-developed/remediation, or the Johnsons site. It apparently was coming from a Wood Recycling Company on the Saxon Site and this

Odour did not come under the EA remit, but that of Fenland District Council – Environmental Services, whom I contacted and they were/are aware and had sent someone to investigate (last I heard).

However in the last week or so, several people have contacted me about the ongoing smells, what we need to do is always report it, that way a record is kept as to the incidents, at FDC it is very easy to access their web @ https://www.fenland.gov.uk/report.

Connie and I are hoping to half the amount of Christmas cards we send out every year, we instead sponsor 4 to 6 large native trees instead through the Woodland Trust.

May I therefore thank everyone for their help and support, wishing you a Merry, Safe Christmas and New Year.

As and when there are any developments, I will keep you posted.

With regards,

Roy G…..
