Transport Strategy Today – Whittlesey

Like all planned things can go a little wrong, I and they forgot the Fair was setting up on the Market Square – however they were located in the Car Park behing The George.
I did go along and have a good conversation with the representatives from Cambs CC.
They would wish as many people have an input as possible – that said do not expect anything to happen very quickly…..these things take time as we all know…

What A Menu @ PCH – OK-ish…..

Having ‘sampled’ food in Prisons and Police Stations (As a member of the public?)
Todays experience was sort of OK – my choice of Chicken Piri-Piri I rated at 6/10
my colleague rated her Chicken Pie at 2/10, the food was hot and tasted OK – it just looked ?.
The patients I surveyed all appeared reasonably happy with the food.
Extensive menu, with a large print version, Religious Menu, Picture Menu and a Childrens Menu.

Update on PCH Audit

Today 5 teams covered 20 Ward Area’s of Peterborough City Hospital @ Bretton.
I was teamed with The Facilities Manager and Infection Control Manager.
Our visit on each Ward was around 45 minutes and we only ‘found’ one area that needed immediate attention.
We were ‘treated’ to the same food that patients receive – there was a good choice and all food is ‘cooked’ on the Ward.
This was the first assessment for 3 years as none were done whilst the COVID Pandemic
was at high levels.

Tomorrow Thursday I will be part of a small team at Peterborough City Hospital.

We are conducting a ‘Patient Led Assessment’ of the Hospital Environment, this includes everything except Medical criteria.

It will include access, cleanliness, food, decore.

How people with Dementia are being treated.
Toilets, Hygiene and associated equipement.
Privacy, Dignity and Wellbeing.

The above are some of a raft of things we will be assessing.
The results are fed back to the Hospital Directorate & Management.

I shall be out all day and will not be putting any posts up until tomorrow evening.

CAB Update – September

Welcome to our monthly newsletter. Here we will bring you up-to-date with how Citizens Advice Rural Cambs is continuing to provide expert advice and support to help the residents of rural Cambridgeshire through these troubled times.

Foodbank Projects

We have successfully  recruited to our 3 new Foodbank projects (Ely Foodbank, Godmanchester & St Neots Foodbanks and Wisbech Foodbank).

Our new members of staff, who have now joined us, are currently undergoing training before joining existing staff, who will also be working on these projects and are already working closely with the Foodbanks.

Through these projects CARC will be working in partnership with the foodbanks to tackle underlying causes of poverty by providing advice, casework and support for people referred to us by the foodbanks. Our adviser / buddy will provide intensive support, and make a real difference to the lives of people accessing foodbanks  – successfully reducing their need for foodbank support and developing resilience in their lives.

Funding for our Money Advice Service

Having reported in a previous issue that the funding for this project was up for recommissioning via national Citizens Advice (CitA), without any guarantees of success, we are pleased to advise that we have received confirmation from CitA recently that funding through Money and Pensions Service has been extended for a further 26 months as from the 1st February 2023.

We have successfully maintained funding for this project since 2014 and have an Advice Quality Standard accreditation for debt advice.

Through this service we are able to provide debt advice up to  and including applying for Debt Relief Order (where appropriate), together with helping clients to improve their financial skills/budgeting.

Our dedicated Money Advice team offer face to face appointments in our offices in Wisbech and Huntingdon, along with telephone appointments for clients in East Cambs, Fenland and Huntingdonshire.
