Plans For A New Lincolnshire Co-Op for Coates Area.

As a boy I was brought up and schooled in Coates, I still love the village and its community. Development over the years have changed somethings.
I am not sure ‘if’ the local residents are very supportive of The Coates Village Store, which has been there all my life and I collected my daily papers to be delivered in Eastrea during the 1960’s.
The proposed (Ankers) site has been in a derelict condition for many years.
Linconshire Co-Op will giving a presentation to Whittlesey Town Council Planning Committee on the 01st February (Agenda posted on this web-blog)

If you want to make comments or speak to your Councillor (Coates) Cllr, Whitwell, Wicks and Miscandlon (details on WTC website).

An Alternative View – Ex Conservative Martin Curtis….

I have no issue or problem posting other local politicans views….

Have a look at the now the no longer being a member of the Conservative Party and considering himself politically neutral – Martin Curtis Web-blog.

(picture 2021 MC on Countdown)

In his most recent article I quote…

This article by Dan Hannan is a good example.  There are two aspects of it that I find quite depressing.  The first is that many people are likely to vote Conservative because of a fear that Kier Starmer is more left thing than he is currently showing.
Isn’t it depressing that there is a (probably valid) view that Conservative voters will mark their cross on election day for totally negative reasons;

Littleport Has A ‘Vision’ – We Should Have One As Well…..

I and a couple of other Councillors, use the word ‘Vision’ on occasion, however the bulk of our Whittlesey Town Councillors have little or no ‘vision’ – but wait a minute – when the Election Phamplets are put through doors, all of a sudden the word ‘Vision’ appears?
Take 5  to read the Littleport Vision 2030

(I take no pleasure in that Wisbech Vision 2020 which started in around 2012 got little or nowhere) – The Littleport Vision is differently funded.

‘Some’ – Good News

A decision by the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) to allocate the remaining funds from the original £1M to the projects put forward last month.
You may recall there was two camps after what was left over from the much delayed Heritage Centre. Some money towards Town projects but the bulk going on’ Consultants’ to produce a report on the viability of a Relief Road.

‘If’ my earlier poll this week has any bearing (I doubt very much that Councillors would have taken much notice) there was almost a 50/50 split on whether a Relief Road was either wanted or needed.
The Civil Enforcement on parking is another big issue which has been delayed.

I’ll post what Littleport have done with their £1M in the next post.

NQS News…..

One item that came out of a recent meeting was the reasons why GP’s are not seeing so many patients – face-to face.

Recommended levels of safe contact by the European Union of General Practitioners and the BMA which is that to deliver safe care there should be no more than 25 contacts per day.
In October 2015, the GPs of this practice were carrying out 30 contacts in the morning, they had pre-booked and face to face contacts and the afternoon was full of booked face to face.

Besides there being a national shortage of GP’s which make recruiting even more challenging.

Tour of Cambridgeshire Returns

It’s that time of year where we’re in the thick of the planning for the Tour of Cambridgeshire 2023. This years event is again the UK’s qualifier event for the UCI GF World Championships, which will be held in up in Glasgow in August 2023.

At ToC we’ll see amateur riders from all around the World riding to qualify for the Worlds, riding as a personal challenge or raising money for their chosen charity.

As you’re aware, the event is required to have full roads closures in place to ensure the safety of both riders, contractors and residents throughout the event. Closures will be kept to a minimum and managed by a traffic management contractor throughout.

The dates for your diary are 3rd and 4th June 2023, with the Time Trial being held on the Saturday and the Road Race / Gran Fondo / Sportive being held on the Sunday

We’d like to thank you in advance because we know this causes an inconvenience to some but the number of people who come out and support the event is incredible, making the whole experience something to remember forever for everyone involved.

If any residents have any questions regarding the closures, please ask them to email us at roads@tourofcambridgeshire.com

If you have any questions regarding the event, please let me know.

Neighbourhood Police Team

Day 1 of Neighbourhood Policing Week 🚨

Today the March Neighbourhood Policing Team carried out a parking enforcement day of action in Whittlesey.

Illegal parking in the town was raised by the people of Fenland as one of the top issues in the area, and it became a priority for us to tackle over the next few months.
We gave out more than 10 tickets today, moved along drivers who were stopped, or about to park in illegal places, and educated several drivers on the rules of the road, and where they can and can’t park in the town.

The surrounding area of Alderman Jacobs Primary School has been identified as a major hot-spot for illegal parking, especially at drop off/pick up times.
Many vehicles were found parked on single or double yellow lines, or in the lay-by directly outside the entrance to school.

There are signs around the school that state the times where no parking or stopping is allowed, these times are between 8.30am and 9.30am, and 3pm and 4pm, Monday to Friday. Many drivers said they didn’t know about this – so it’s a good job we were there to remind them!
Also, a big thank you to the members of public who stopped and thanked us for our work today. We are trying our best to make the town a safer place to live and visit, and we will continue to do so! But as always, thank you for your support! 😊
