In memory of our former Chair, Stewart Francis.
Many of us will remember Stuart as one of the pioneers of local radio in the 1970’s.
It is with great sadness that we share the news that our former Chair, Stewart Francis, passed away on Boxing Day at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.
Stewart stepped away from his role as Chair of Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough in early 2025 due to health reasons. This decision was taken with his characteristic thoughtfulness and integrity, always placing the needs of the organisation and the people it serves first.
During his time with Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Stewart was a deeply respected and valued leader. He brought clarity, compassion, and a strong sense of purpose to the role, championing the importance of listening to people’s experiences of health and care services and ensuring those voices were heard where it mattered most.
Stewart was known for his calm and considered approach, his commitment to good governance, and his unwavering belief in the value of community voice. He supported staff and volunteers alike, encouraging challenge, collaboration, and integrity in all that we did.
We are immensely grateful for the time, energy, and wisdom Stewart gave to Healthwatch Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. His contribution has left a lasting legacy, and he will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who had the privilege of working with him.
Our thoughts are with Stewart’s family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.

A man who “just switched” and attacked a woman following a night out with her has been jailed.
Dominic Bevilacqua, 25, assaulted the victim on the evening of November 4 last year at his home in Anglers Avenue, Whittlesey.
The victim, who had been in an on-off relationship with Bevilacqua, said out of nowhere he “just switched” and grabbed her hair and dragged her off the bed.
Bevilacqua then punched her in the face multiple times before placing his hands around her neck and strangling her.
He also kicked and punched her in the face before she escaped and drove home.

The victim attended hospital the following day for treatment.
Bevilacqua was arrested on November 6 and tried to blame the victim’s behaviour for the assault.
However, on Friday (January 23), at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, acting as a crown court, Bevilacqua was jailed for 20 months, having pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation.

Over the next couple of months, the March Neighbourhood Policing Team will be working towards the following priorities:
1️⃣Tackling vehicle-related anti-social behaviour and traffic offences in March, Whittlesey, and Chatteris town centres
2️⃣Proactive targeting of known drug dealing and drug use hotspots in March, Whittlesey, and Chatteris town centres, with a focus on disrupting criminal networks and safeguarding young people at risk of exploitation
3️⃣Provide a visible policing presence in town centres and other public spaces to offer community reassurance and address safety concerns.
We would like to invite you to our next Voluntary Group Networking Meeting for the Whittlesey area. As you know, these meetings are a great way for local organisations to get together and network, (large and small), giving an opportunity to share successes and challenges, to talk about good practise and to share all ideas about those important matters such as funding and volunteering!
Our next meeting will be on Thursday 5th March at Whittlesey Library, 10am to 12pm . Our speaker for this meeting will be a representative (s) from The National Lottery, and there will be an opportunity for questions and more of an insight into their work including how the Lottery are keen to fund projects in our area.
As usual, we would love you have you attend and would be grateful if you could please reply via this email. Please feel free to forward this email onto anyone you feel may be interested, and apologies if we have sent more than one invitation to your organisation !

We Councillors report any Highway Faults to Cambs CC – Public have the same access
as we do – Click Here To Report Highways Issues…..
Caspering@CCC-PottyHoling.
Weekly at least, ongoing I can only speak for myself, am contacted about the
POT HOLE issues….so further to my earlier article from a very concerned resident, to which 3 of our Councillors have engaged…
A story from the Fenland Citizen© Fenland Citizen
Wisbech residents and councillors call for ‘unavoidable potholes’
to be fixed to a ‘higher standard’
A resident fears that the “dangerous” potholes in Wisbech could be the root of accidents if something is not done about them soon.
Wisbech and the surrounding areas seem riddled with potholes, with some of the worst located on the town’s main roads, including Churchill Road, Lynn Road and Sutton/Wisbech Road (A1101) towards Long Sutton.
Wisbech Conservative councillor Steve Tierney said the Lib Dems at Cambs County Council do not prioritise roads or spend enough on them.
He said: “I tell them this regularly.
“I do not think I have ever had as many people contact me about the state of the highways as a councillor as I have in the last couple of months.
(RG picture)
“I have never stopped banging on about the fact that we need more money and more focus on our highways, but unfortunately, the leadership at the county council does not seem to agree, as they never do it.
RG Note:- This should not be ‘political’ – the roads were just as bad when the conservative administration was in charge of Cambs CC – although I will add, they appears to be addressed and fixed in a more timely way back then.

The road conditions for Cambridgeshire were rated as amber, with green being the highest score for maintaining roads and red the lowest.
Cambridgeshire County Council has announced that this year it will be investing £73million in highways maintenance across the county, which is being used to repair roads as well as cycleways, footpaths and other highway assets as part of “ensuring safe travel is a key priority”.
RG Note:- £73M – Just not enough – but spend more on roads, means less somewhere else.
