Fenland District Council Budget Proposals YOUR VIEWS

If you pay Council Tax then these documents are important to you.

It is 30 minutes of reading – FDC’s proposed 0% increase again in Council Tax Rates is to be applauded – however there could be medium and long term risks, which involves using reserves to make up some of the shortfalls in income….
The survey finishes on 04th February.

The link takes you directly to the survey – however I would suggest reading the documents.

(Other Rates – Cambs CC, Police & Crime Commisioner, Fire Services will all probably rise to the max they are allowed too).
Whittlesey Town Council are also proposing at this stage a 0% increase in their precept.

Whittlesey Teenager Sentenced To An Indefinite Hospital Order

A teenager who stabbed two police officers with a broken glass bottle has been given a hospital order.

On 2 February 2022, police were called to a house in Mansion Gardens, Whittlesey, to assist paramedics who were dealing with 19-year-old Daniel Parr who was deemed to be a threat to himself.

As officers were speaking with him, Parr pulled out a broken glass bottle neck that he had hidden on himself, and stabbed both officers causing two puncture wounds to the side of one officer’s face, and large lacerations to back of the other officer’s head and ear.

Further officers were called for back-up who safely detained Parr and assisted the injured officers.

Parr, of Mansion Gardens, Whittlesey, initially denied two charges of assault causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent and faced trial, however in November last year he pleaded guilty to two counts of GBH without intent which was accepted in court.

He appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on Monday (8 January) where he was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order until he is deemed fit to be released.

Detective Constable Kevin Poole, who investigated, said: “As police officers, we come to work knowing that we will often be faced with the unknown and be put in situations that may bring harm.

“The injuries that these officers faced whilst they were trying to help someone is horrific and I am glad that everyone has received the help they needed.”

Safety Issue @ KD Nature Reserve

Due to unstable ground following a cliff collapse, the nature trail and ground to the right (south and south-east) of the main bird hide has been closed until further notice.

We apologise for this situation, however Health & Safety must be all of our main concern.

Signage has been posted at the entrance of the trail and further cordons will be in place in the coming days.

Please see the below images for clarity of the areas affected.
If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to get in contact.

Speeding Awareness – More Coming

Further to my highlighting speeding issues and concerns especially entering Coates/A605.
Speeding is a for-ever ongoing issue with residents througout the whole of Whittlesey and Villages (Fenland and beyond).

Good to see the Police out and about with their camera, even though on this occasion no one was ticketed.

I will be updating the public in respect of ‘our’ average speed camera’s within Whittlesey.
I recently wrote to the Cambs & Peterborough Road Safety Partnership asking for information on funding of ‘Speed Camera’s’ – I have received a response – and this will be given to the rest of Whittlesey Councillors next week, afterwhich I will publish.

Did you see us whilst you were out driving yesterday? 🚗
Neighbourhood officers braved the cold and were out conducting speed checks in Wimblington, Benwick, and Coates. ❄ 👮‍♂️
We were pleased to not have to issue any tickets this time, but words of advice were given to one person after they were caught marginally over the limit by driving at 35mph in a 30mph zone.
Speeding in the rural areas is a priority for the local neighbourhood team, and we will be regularly out and about making sure that you are staying safe on the roads. You never know where we may be next! 👀
Our priorities, such as speeding, are largely based on your concerns. Is there something you would like your local neighbourhood officers to focus on? You can let us know by filling out our community survey 👉 https://orlo.uk/Community_Survey_r1Je4

Fenland Not Doing Well On EV Points

The Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) recently held a councillor engagement meeting in respect of in introduction to EV’s and their plans for EV charging.
The document is a large file which is difficult to post on this web-site….
However I highlight a few of the slides.

A fellow Councillor made the following comments –

The poll highlights the issue of range anxiety and a complicated way of paying for public access charging. The presentation included some ‘information’ that was flawed, but in general, was good.

What to do? Fenland has a poor reputation for environmental issues. We need an environmental plan – not everything now, but a plan with a realistic timescale because the work and cost are high.

Police Podcast

New Podcast episode: An insight into the world of a 999 call handler.

The force’s true crime podcast has just launched season three of Cambs Cops: Our Stories. The series delves into the complex world of policing, giving an insight into some of the most serious offences and the difference people can make in the fight against crime and protecting the most vulnerable.

In our latest episode we are joined by Tom Wilby, a call handler from the force’s Demand Hub, who discusses what it is like to be the first person to speak to someone in an emergency and in need of police support.

Tom talks about the types of emergency calls the force receives and the role he plays in protecting people from harm and ensuring they have the help they need.

You can watch or listen to the full episode on the force’s YouTube channel.
