Prior to building, during the planning and after opening many ‘local’ long term residents questioned the suitability of where the ‘Bridge’ was built.
Question being the stability of the land – they, we, were always told all tests were carried out and there were no issues.
Shortly after building, the banking adjoining the Star Pit had to be re-enforced by several thousand tons of material.
We do see regularly engineers with equipment.
Hopefully the ‘cracks’ are superficial only.

A lane on a main road between Whittlesey and Peterborough is set to be closed for at least a week after cracks appeared on the carriageway.

Dropped Manhole Lindley Road has been reported to the authorities.

Fenland refuse teams shift waste equivalent to more than 6,000
elephants a year

Fenland’s refuse service collected waste equivalent to more than 6,000 elephants in weight in the first 11 months of the last financial year.

The team collected 37,000 tonnes of domestic and commercial waste to the end of February, a report before Fenland’s full council  at the end of last month said.

Garden waste and recycling accounted for more than 40 per cent of that – but we want to see even more going into blue bins.

Our joint CCTV service responded to 1,110 incidents across Chatteris, March, Whittlesey and Wisbech last year, a Council update said.

Incidents included those relating to anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, violent crime, illegal drug use, possession of weapons and theft.

CCTV intervention led to 152 arrests being made by Cambridgeshire Police, a report before Fenland’s May full council meeting said.

Anyone wishing to vote in Fenland in next month’s elections is encouraged to be aware of the key dates and information ahead of polling day.

Registration

The first step in the process is being registered to vote. The deadline to do so is 11.59pm on Tuesday 18 June. This includes anyone who has moved home and needs to register at their new address or has recently changed their name. Registration takes just five minutes and can be completed online: Register to Vote (you’ll need your National Insurance number).

Poll cards

Poll cards for everyone currently registered to vote in Fenland will be posted out w/c Monday 3 June. Some residents in Whittlesey will receive two poll cards – one for the General Election and one for the by-elections. The by-election poll card is due to arrive by the second week of June.

Voters are being asked to check the details on their poll cards when they arrive to ensure they are correct, and to note the location of their polling station which may have changed. You do not need to take your poll card to the polling station to vote.

Postal voting

If you wish to vote by post and don’t already have a postal voting arrangement in place, the deadline to apply is 5pm on Wednesday 19 June. For more information, visit voting By post. This is also the deadline for applying to change your existing postal voting arrangements, which you can do by emailing elections@fenland.gov.uk

Postal voters are advised to read the information sent through to them carefully when it arrives, especially in relation to new rules regarding handing in completed postal votes or votes on behalf of other people. Postal voters are requested wherever possible to send back their completed postal vote pack via Royal Mail as soon as possible to help manage demand. Proxy voting

If you’d like someone to vote on your behalf (by proxy), you can apply for a proxy vote. The deadline to apply for a proxy vote is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June. For more information, visit: By proxy (on your behalf)

Voter ID

This be the first General Election held where Voter ID will be required to be shown by all those wishing to vote in person at a polling station on polling day. Guidance on what forms of photo identification will be accepted can be found at: Voter ID.

If you do not have one of the required forms of ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate by 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.

Another excellent meeting with a lot of progress and good news, a little bad news and 15 members of Friends of The Manor’ attending this evening, including myself, Cllr Eamonn Dorling (Treasurer) and Mayor of WTC Cllr Alex Miscandlon who is the portfolio holder for Leisure at FDC.
The Fishing Platform project is nearing its final stages and hoped to be completed end of next week. BIG BASH all organised.

MP Steve Barclay in his promo video stated that he was a good candidate for several reasons! – one being he lived locally and knows the area, whereas other candidates do not.

Now we have a By-Election for the St Andrews Ward, Whittlesey South.
One of the candidates does not live here at all
Mr Clayton Maxwell Payne, who wouldn’t give his address on the election notice (perfectly legal) however I found he lives in Murrow near Wisbech 13+ miles away and doubt if he knows anything about our town and villages.

So Mr Barclays point of voting for someone local sounds to be good advice.

Local candidates being Mr Martin Curtis (Independent) who has spent most of his life here in Whittlesey and Mr Peter Bibb also (Independent) has lived here for well over 20 years

Of course we already have two Councillors who do not live in Whittlesey, Town Councillors Diana Dickinson and Cllr Saeed Arman (Both live in Peterborough within the criteria for standing for elections in Whittlesey).
