Whittlesey Festival Meeting Last Night

15 Partners attended last nights Whittlesey Festival meeting for updates on this years event.

Sunday 8th September

One major issue the Chair highlighted was that Whittlesey Town Council will not be financially supporting this years event.
Their application was refused.
I informed the group that the Finance & Policy Committee had made this decision and I was not part of that committee.

Funding for the event is still ongoing.

Carl F – with the proposed Festival Mug.

eCops Volunteers Week

Today, as national Volunteers’ Week begins, Chief Constable Nick Dean and Police and Crime Commissioner Darryl Preston have thanked the many people who help police Cambridgeshire for no financial reward.

“We couldn’t do it without you”, is the message from both, and it coincides with the force opening recruitment for new Specials.

A Special constable is just one voluntary role in policing, alongside police support volunteers, cadet leaders and others.

Specials have all the powers of a police officer and work alongside their regular colleagues. It only requires a minimum commitment of four hours a week and is a great opportunity to give something back to your community, while receiving professional training, skills and experience that can be used in everyday life and career progression.

Over the past 12 months, Specials have racked up more than 23,000 hours on the job, launched an impressive 400 investigations and stopped 1300 vehicles.

If you, or someone you know, would like to find out more about becoming a Special, and maybe even apply, please visit our website pages.

441 People Received Help In Fenland – HSF

The Household Support Fund, which I am a trusted partner of in my role as Chairman of NHW. I supported a number of residents in Whittlesey and Villages during the COVID pandemic.
I have not been contacted for sometime as there are many other organisations within Fenland supporting those who maybe need help.
I would suggest if you or anyone you know, contact the list below first, if you have any problems you are welcome to contact me.

I Am On The Case (Again)

As I have on a number of occasions inforned that the Bower Tow Path is actually ‘owned’ by 4 (four) different organisations (maybe 5) – and some of it FDC have taken on resposibility for and when requested (as I do) cut a small swathe along about 60%,
(They have sent me a map), the other 40% then becomes difficult both in contacting and then requesting work to be done. I am on the case….

Sundays Parody – Serious Not?

With the somewhat sudden early retirement of ex Cllr Kay Mayor, there are now (two) vacancies for South Mary’s South (District)/St Andrews (Whittlesey Town)

I am the other elected Ward Councillor for Whittlesey South (District)/South Ward (Whittlesey South) until the next elections (if I last that long!).

I understand Two Independents will put up for the vacant seat(s) Martin Curtis (Ex Councillor) for the Fenland District seat and Peter Bibb for the Whittlesey Town Council seat.
Elections probably to be held on July 04th.

Naturally I am supporting both of the candidates….

So at yesterdays Coates Village Fete, Kay and Martin
had a photo opportunity – to which I asked the question –

‘You will be supporting this candidate then’ –

To which Kay replied No comment!

Anglian Water Fined (Again)

Generally we receive good clean water to drink and bathe, however getting rid of our waste is a different story, we all pay more to discharge our water than receiving it.
Thousands of times a year Water Companies discharge waste and effluent into our rivers and sea, they do not always inform the ‘Environment Agency’

A water company is poised to be sentenced after being convicted of not complying with a requirement to provide records, the Environment Agency has said.

Anglian Water was found guilty by a district judge following a trial at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, agency officials said.

Officials said the agency brought the case against Anglian Water following a wider investigation into “potential non-compliance” with environmental permit conditions.

An Anglian Water spokeswoman said the company had been found “not guilty” on “two counts of failing to provide data”.

Cool Weather Didn’t Put Off Hundreds Attending The Coates Fete

On a somewhat cool and overcast afternoon today Saturday 01st June, did not deter families enjoying the now restored annual Coates Fete.
One of those events, where you may only meet someone once a year and will be at an event similar to todays….

Ex Coates Businessman and Whittlesey Councillor Ralph Butcher –
‘Coal Delivery Lorry’ fully restored.

Ping Brothers of Eastrea, who my father worked for in the 1960’s – nice restored ‘Foden’

Both local companies – Pings Bros of Eastrea and Thorys of Eldernell Coates (still trading).
