New Lighting For The Buttercross Monument

Message from Cllr Dee Laws…GOOD News –

The Buttercross will be illuminated again.
At the end of October I reported Whittlesey Buttercross monument was looking very sad with only one light working.
Agreement from Sam Falco, Conservation Officer Fenland District Council has purchased a new lighting system – 16 x LED lights and being installed this morning.
Fingers crossed the ‘little darlings’ do not damage them.

The findings of the survey will be used to inform the ongoing Cyberhood Watch awareness initiatives and help our Cyberhood Watch Ambassadors. It will also draw attention to important topics which will help everyone protect themselves – and their loved ones – from cyber criminals.

The survey will close on Friday 15 December – we’d really love to hear your views and of course, we will load the report onto our website once it is available so you can take a look for yourself!

Thanks in advance for your support in the fight against cybercrime in the UK.

Last Nights WTC Planning Meeting.

I did not attend myself, however there were a number of Saxongate Resident Group members there, Mr Rice the agent and lead on the Science Park gave an update.
Both the Science Park and Battery Storage Unit applications were ‘approved’ by the only 3 members of WTC Planning Committee in attendance.

I don’t know the reason for absent members,, but on such important applications it would have been nice to see a better turnout.
Both application will go to FDC Planning to be decided on, I would imagine that both will come to the Planning Committee.

I am posting this for information only.
I am a committee member of Fenland District Councils Planning Committee, I will not make any comments on this application or any other application and keep an open mind at all times.

News From Saxongate Residents Group

New Planning Applications and Important Updates.

A new planning application has gone in as part of the proposed development for a Science Park at Victory Pit, which is land to the west, above and adjacent to Saxon Pit.
The deadline for responses looks to be 05/12/2024. Saxongate have sent a report to the planning team (join our mailing list for details). You can view the application here: –

F/YR24/0903/O | Erect up to 65,000 sq m floor space consisting of E (b)(d)(f) (amenity buildings) and E (G)(i)(ii)(iii) (office, laboratory and manufacturing) including renewable energy infrastructure, parking, country park and other associated infrastructure (outline application with matters committed in respect of access and layout) | Land Adjacent New Saxon Works Peterborough Road Whittlesey Cambridgeshire

Another new planning application has gone in for a BESS battery energy storage Facility at Kings Dyke. Saxongate has some concerns and have sent a report to the planning team (again join the mailing list for details).

You can view the application here:-

The BBC have covered stories in the past expressing some concerns for this type of instillation: –

The above planning applications are due to be discussed tonight (02/12/24). 18:30 at Peel House, Whittlesey Town Council planning meeting, which is open to the public.

The other various planning applications for Saxon Pit are still pending. Cambridgeshire County Council have requested further information to support the application to significantly increase production by Johnsons Aggregates Recycling Ltd. This includes a request to provide real-world dust monitoring data, which we see as a very positive and common-sense step. They have also requested further information regarding the traffic and highways, among other points.

Regarding Churchfield Farm, the Environment Agency have informed Saxongate that the Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA) used there (not in accordance with the regulation RPS247) has been removed. We have asked for evidence that this has taken place. It is positive that the issue has been recognised and acted upon.

Saxongate understand that investigations into the reported odour issues mentioned in our previous update are ongoing by Cambridgeshire County Council.

Saxongate have also been informed by Cambridgeshire County Council that they will follow the Environments Agency’s lead in terms of how they define IBAA, which means they will treat it as a waste product. We also understand that, despite an earlier outlying scoping approval, IBAA is no longer going to be used in the Saxon Pit Southern Buttress remediation works (planning approval pending).

We are monitoring the Ralph Butcher Causeway bridge situation as any closure may impact the no right turn rule for IBA/IBAA HGV carrying vehicles from Johnsons Aggregates Recycling Ltd, currently preventing travel via Whittlesey town.

People can contact us on via Facebook or email saxongate2022@gmail.com  if they wish to join.

Film Night @ Queen St Church

at Queen St Church

Sat. 7th December at 7pm
(doors open at 6.30pm)

“A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong” – cert 12A
plus Special Christmas Special

Stars Derek Jacobi and Diana Rigg

Following their disastrous production of “Peter Pan”, the Cornley Polytechnic amateur dramatic society have been banned from participating in this year’s “A Christmas Carol” with Sir Derek Jacobi. However, the enthusiastic amateurs, undeterred, nobble Sir Derek and the other cast members to stage their own version. There is dissent in the company when Chris and Robert both want to play Scrooge, while nervous Dennis , as Bob Cratchit, has to read all of his lines off prop and Annie gets glued to her chair. When Lucy’s (Ellie Morris’) Tiny Tim is knocked out by falling scenery, the hulking Robert rather improbably must replace her. With faulty greenscreen special effects, and a seemingly romantic betrayal exposed, the company’s version seems doomed until Sandra’s Aunt Diana comes to the rescue.

Free admission, donations welcomed to offset operating expenses.

Refreshments served at interval – ALL very welcome!!
