Merchant Navy Day 03rd September

There were a number of Fenmen who went to war in the British Merchant Navy.

Unfortunately I never met any of them, however when I first went to sea in 1970 I met several old sailors who had severed their country.

My friend Ben Killeen (RIP) from Eire, went to sea in 1942 and was bombed 3 times, and torpedoed twice, in a lifeboat for 3 weeks and lived to tell me his story.
Another friend Captain Rodman Tarbuck (RIP) entered his identures in 1945

I am as always very grateful to Whittlesey Royal British Legion who fly my ‘Red Ensign’ at the Whittlesey War Memorial on the 3rd September.

Merchant Navy Day was established in 2000 by HM Government and is on 3rd September each year, the anniversary of the start of the Second World War.

I Am On The Case – Again….& Again

Yesterday Sunday, I returned to the Manor Field at around 12:30, only to find once more, the Waste Bins in overflow, I removed what I could to make some room.
later around 13:30 Cllr Eamonn Dorling came along and made more space, we removed 3 full bags and left them nearby the bins for eventual collection.
I have now contacted the Head/Manager of Waste @ FDC and await an explanation.

Saturday…..
I have reported to FDC the ‘Overflowing Bin problem’ (again) – this being the 2nd time/ weekend in August I have done so?

Manor Field Bins this afternoon, after I had cleared up the ‘overflow’

Market Square in overflow having not been emptied.

I have asked for an explanation?

I Am On The Case – As You Would Expect

After some years as a local councillor, we get to know how ‘things’ work and where to find ‘things’ out – or thats the way it should work…..for most councillors, some do not bother.
This week a challenge arises on an overgrown hedging which has grown wild.
There could be several owners? – Maybe Highways (Footpaths), could be County Council, or could be Fenland District Council.

Resident contacted me Wednesday, I made enquiries Thursday and had the answer by Friday – not bad – yes it is a Fenland asset and they will get it sorted.
It all takes a little time and effort…..
