News From Todays O&S Panel Meeting @ Fenland

A near 4 hour meeting which can be viewed on FDC’s YouTube Channel™

The agenda for the Overview & Scrutiny Panel was published on this web-blog earlier.
A couple of items and questions/answers in respect to Whittlesey…

1/ Cllr Dee Laws informed us that the safety enhancements for the ‘Market Place/Buttercross would now be done slightly differently than was orginally planned –

There is a ‘trip concern’ stepping off the Buttercross onto the Market Place and there has been a few incidents.
Funding from the CPCA (Cambs & Peterboro Combined Authority) for the Heritage Centre
(which has been shelved) was re-allocated for other projects – this being one.

However I believe the figure of £10,000 was set aside to level up the ‘Block-Paving’ – this figure has been deemed insufficient and therefor a different approach will now happen.
Highlighting the area will now take place.

2/ I asked FDC Leader Cllr Boden, where were are with the consultation for the Whittlesey Refief Road.
He informed that this report is planned for sometime in 2025.
So we won’t know what/if/costs/feasibility may be contained in the report for some time yet.

There maybe a further update to this article tomorrow……

Another Wonderful Day Here In Whittlesey

We estimate around 5,000+ visitors today, yes like last year we had an hour of rain, then the sun returned and so did the families.
Bigger and getting better year-on-year.

News From FenCops

A drink driver who was stopped by an off-duty officer in Whittlesey has been disqualified from driving.
Andrew Parker, 57, was pulled over on the evening of 12 July after the officer saw him driving a silver Ford Mondeo and crossing the central lines in Ralph Butcher Way.

They followed him into Stonald Road and pulled him over.

He was arrested after failing a breath test and later found to be more than two times the legal limit.

Parker, of Swan Road, Whittlesey, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Friday (30 August), where he was disqualified from driving for 20 months and ordered to pay a £369 fine.

PC Sam Dane, who investigated, said: “Fortunately the off-duty police officer was in the right place at the right time and stopped Parker before he could potentially cause harm to himself of other road users.

“There is no excuse when it comes to driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I encourage anyone planning to have a drink to arrange alternative transport.”

The force operates a dedicated, confidential hotline – 0800 032 0845 – which is available 24/7 and provides the public with the chance to provide information about anyone they think may be driving under the influence.

Information about drink driving, the law and the penalties, can be found on the force’s dedicated road safety information webpages.
