At Long Last It Is Coming – Not From MP Barclay.

For some 15 years I have lobbied MP Barclay over a deposit scheme for plastic/glass bottles, cans and Polystyrene – many of you would have seen my posts on this blog on many occasions…Barclays answer was ‘ It would be too costly to implementple amongst other reasons….but today I hear from a Labour Government….

Labour push forward plans for a scheme for shoppers to pay a deposit on plastic bottles and cans to reduce litter and pollution.

Daily Mail Today

Glass bottles are excluded from the scheme due to them making up a relatively low amount of litter – around three per cent – and recycling rates already being at high levels.

To be fair as I always am…The plans were originally put forward by the Tories under then environment secretary Michael Gove but were never enacted..

A plan to increase recycling of plastic bottles and drinks cans will help restore pride in Britain by reducing littering, ministers claim.

They say a deposit return scheme (DRS) – where a consumer pays a deposit on a drink but gets this refunded when they return the container- will mean cleaner streets.

Labour passed laws to begin the introduction of the scheme last week. After numerous set backs over the years, it is expected to start in October 2027.

Hare Coursing Investigation, Can You Help?

Dear Roy,

We are appealing for information, dashcam footage or CCTV following a number of incidents of hare coursing yesterday, causing thousands of pounds’ worth of damage to crops as well as putting lives at risk with dangerous driving.

Up to 25 vehicles were seen, some in convoy, in various parts of the county,  These included Fordham, Ely, Prickwillow, Littleport, Welney, Chatteris, Manea, Wimblington and Doddington.

We understand the impact this has had on the community and we are investigating.

Anyone who has information and footage that could assist in identifying those involved is asked to email RCAT@cambs.police.uk

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 or online.

More information about hare coursing and other wildlife crime
can be found on our website.

Kind Regards,

Station Road Recreation Ground

I understand fully the concerns and objections regarding any disposal of the Station Road Recreation site in Whittlesey.
I understand (haven’t seen myself) that Cllr Nawaz is organising some sort of petition…..
Until we get more information and updates can not comment much further other than….
As previously stated – I will flight 100% to keep this area as an Open Space for the public.

Within the Neighbhourhood Plans for Fenland, there has been a shortfall of Public Open Space, this also includes Whittlesey, and it is on this basis we should flight to retain the area.

Got The Bottle To Be A Candidate ? – Keyboard Warriors Invited…

I would hope ‘everyone’ knows my Independent stance on ‘local politics’ – Keep it local does not require anyone to be ‘political’ and the majority agree.

Being staunchly independent means making decisions on candidates by researching their policies along with not identifying as part of a political party …
Doing what I consider best for our residents and listening…

I’ll not be bullied or coerced – I will listen and respond – not always agreeing and some can get angry when this happens.

You could of course join up with any of the other ‘political groups’ – All I ask is – do it for the community not the politics – At higher levels of government – yes I’d agree that being Independent is difficult in forming policies.
May Elections for County Council looming – are there candidates in Whittlesey – Yes there are…
