Will Our Bus Service Get Any Better

I can remember that for some 15+ years various councillors at WTC & FDC
(All credit to them) have tried to get our Bus Service to serve the community better.

and more frequently – Not one unfortunately has had any success – a vast uphill struggle – which I say I did not get very involved in
(no one asked me too).

Now with the impending departure/retirement of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) mayor Dr Nik Johnson has chosen to franchise the region’s bus system.

This means that bus services in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough will be under greater public control, with CPCA able to set fares, routes, timetables and service standards.
Dr Johnson described the decision as “one of the most significant moments for local public transport in decades”.

When a nice lady who I won’t name had a go at me (why not) about the bus service in Whittlesey (nearly an hour’s worth) –

I asked her when was the last time she used a bus (I already knew the answer) to which she replied up until then never.

Now said lady on getting her ‘free bus pass’ uses the service regularly (all over the country I may add)…..

Question Roy – Do I have a bus pass – Answer Yes – but I’ve never yet used it…..yet
Good form of ID though – over 65!

Good – Bad – or Indifferent

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayor Dr Nik Johnson will not run for re-election in May.

Like him or not he has delivered (some projects for Fenland & Whittlesey)and he did not withold money promised by the previous Conservative Mayor – for (a) Kings Dyke Crossing and (b) the £1M set aside for each market town – Whittlesey used theirs for (The defuncted Heritage Centre) the Heritage Walk, enhancements to the Manor Field and Swimming Pool and financing for the ‘Relief Road’ inception plans etc to name a some…so yes I dare say on reflection we did get quite a few things.

Ponient comments made by Mayor Johnson – which I can identify and sympathise with is the following.

That said, none of this has been easy, and I have had to contend with no shortage of challenge, conflict, and controversy along the way, all of which have taken a very heavy toll, personally, professionally, and most of all, physically.

We are pleased to present the findings of our Digital Enablers Survey, conducted on behalf of the NHS, which captured valuable feedback from the community on the future of digital access to health and care services.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to share their experiences and ideas. Your feedback is invaluable in shaping how digital tools can better support people across our area. The responses from this survey will help inform the procurement specification, which will guide the next steps in developing a new digital front door.

We appreciate all your contributions.

Support Fenland Presentation @ WTC Full Council Meeting

Thanks again for the opportunity to speak at the Full Council meeting last month.

It was also useful from my perspective to hear some of the issues effecting the local community  and how  Support Fenland can potentially get involved and help.

As promised I enclose the slides from my presentation.

I also attach the link for the Volunteer Cambs Portal where groups/charities can post volunteer opportunities – This was in response to Cllr. Jason Mockett’s request who said  volunteers were needed for the Platinum Wood Project .

If there are any questions or you need more information please feel free to get in touch.
Thanks again
Best Wishes

Hospital Passports An Overview

If you are working with someone with health care needs, they may benefit from completing a hospital passport. They can help improve communication with health care professionals and reduce stress for the passport holder.

There are a number of different options available, depending on an individual’s personal circumstances.

Please find below a number of examples.

Neurodiversity Passport

Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West Integrated Care system have created a Neurodiversity Passport. You can view it here:

National Autistic Society – My hospital passport

‘My Hospital Passport’ is a resource for people with autism who might need hospital treatment.

Alzheimers Society – This is me

This is me’ is a simple leaflet for anyone receiving professional care who is living with dementia or experiencing delirium or other communication difficulties. A support tool to enable person-centred care. ‘This is me’ can be used to record details about a person who can’t easily share information about themselves. For example, it can be used to record:

·        a person’s cultural and family background

·        important events, people and places from their life

·        their preferences and routines.

The leaflet can be used in any setting – at home, in hospital, in respite care or in a care home.

Sixth Arrest Following Coursing and Disorder

Dear Roy,

A sixth man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into violent disorder and criminality that occurred across Cambridgeshire on 25 January.

The 30-year-old was arrested in Essex this afternoon (Wednesday) on suspicion of violent disorder and attending a hare coursing event and is currently in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station in Peterborough.

A force-led investigation was launched last week following multiple complaints of hare coursing, criminal damage and dangerous driving in various parts of the county.

Incidents took place in Fordham, Ely, Prickwillow, Littleport, Welney, Chatteris, Manea, Wimblington and Doddington and police continue to appeal for the public’s help in identifying those involved.

Two men aged 22 and 51 were arrested in Essex yesterday morning (Tuesday), while a 46-year-old man from Solihull was arrested in Peterborough yesterday afternoon.

An 18-year-old man from Spalding and a 26-year-old man from Grantham were arrested on Friday morning (31 January).

We have also seized four vehicles, three in Grantham and one in Essex, as well as hare coursing equipment.

All five men have been released on bail to return to Thorpe Wood Police Station at a later date, with strict conditions:

Not to be in possession of, be in control of, or be in the company of any dog on private land without the owner’s written permission.

  • When in possession of, in control of, or in the company of any dog, said dog must be on a lead.
  • Not to be in a vehicle with any dog, whilst outside of a five-mile radius of your home address, unless for a pre-arranged veterinary appointment.
  • Not to be in possession of a catapult or shot, such as ball bearing, and/or an air weapon or any part of an air weapon.

    • You must not drive or be conveyed in a mechanically propelled vehicle onto private fields or agriculture field belonging to another person without written permission presentable to an officer.
    • You must not use any public spaces, footpaths, bridleways or other such like areas belonging to the Local Authority or another unspecified person with the intention to hare course.
    • You must not shout at, swear at, or intimidate any persons in any of the 12 counties – Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Kent, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire or Nottinghamshire.

Anyone with any information and footage that could assist in identifying those involved is asked to email OpCalluna@cambs.police.uk or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, by calling 0800 555111 or online.
