Please Be Vigilant…..

Be vigilant – look out for vulnerable relatives, friends and neighbours.

Dear Roy

We’ve been alerted to reports of fraudsters targeting elderly and vulnerable people in neighbouring counties.

These con artists usually engage their victims over the phone, often purporting to be from the police or the bank and in need of the victim’s help with an investigation into fraudulent activity on their account.

They may ask the victim to disclose their card details and pin number or withdraw money from their account ready for them to collect.

They may even pose as an investor and pressure someone into parting with money for a “too good to miss” investment opportunity.

Keep an eye on vulnerable relatives and remind them…

  • Stop – if they receive an unexpected call that requires them to hand over money or bank details, end the call and process the information first
  • Protect – call the bank immediately if they think they’ve been scammed so they can freeze their account
  • Alert – tell them to report the incident to police and a trusted friend or relative

Flood Warning: North Bank Road

IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
Flood Warning has been issued by the Environment Agency.

Flood Warning in force: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene, east of Peterborough and west of Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Flooding is expected for: North Bank Road alongside the River Nene to the east of Peterborough and the West of the Dog-in-a-Doublet Sluice.

Immediate action required.
Heavy rain has fallen over the past few days which is causing the river levels to rise on the River Nene. During periods of high tide the River Nene will be unable to discharge into the sea, resulting in tide lock conditions. This is likely to lead to localised flooding of the North Bank Road, between Peterborough and Rings End. Whilst this Flood Warning is in force, the Local Authority will close North Bank Road. Diversionary routes will be put in place and further updates will be available through local media. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.
We are closely monitoring the situation and this message will be updated by 17:00 on 30/01/2025, or before, if the situation changes.

Hare Coursing Statement and Investigation

Dear Roy,

An investigation has been launched following multiple complaints of hare coursing, criminal damage and dangerous driving in various parts of the county, over the weekend.

Incidents took place in Fordham, Ely, Prickwillow, Littleport, Welney, Chatteris, Manea, Wimblington and Doddington and police are appealing for the public’s help in identifying those involved.

The scale of the hare coursing event is unprecedented and responding to the incidents was difficult, however, the force is working with the local community to identify those involved and bring them to justice.

Local policing commander Superintendent Ben Martin said: “We understand the damage, concern and fear these incidents have brought to our rural communities and are sorry we were unable to do more to stop the activities of these people at the time.

“The information we had in advance of this gathering had very limited detail, so a force-wide dispersal order was put in place.

“However, due to the scale of the incident and the multiple locations where offences took place, as well as a significantly demanding weekend elsewhere in the county, meant we didn’t have the resources available to deal with every report we received from members of the public.

“We understand the frustrations of the community and are attending a meeting this afternoon, alongside the Police and Crime Commissioner, to speak with local residents, councillors and the local MP, to address their concerns.”

A vehicle from the incident has been seized and will be forensically examined, as part of the investigation, and hundreds of images have been received that we will be using to identify those involved.

Superintendent Martin added:  “We want to reassure the community that we are committed to policing our rural communities, and this morning two men were stopped for hare coursing in the Ramsey area.  One was issued with a community protection notice, and the second a community protection warning and both were dispersed from the county.

“We continue to appeal to the public for any information they may have – CCTV, dashcam footage or doorbell footage, that can help us identify these individuals.”

Anyone with any information and footage that could assist in identifying those involved is asked to email RCAT@cambs.police.uk or alternatively, call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 or online.

13 CPWs Issued In A Bid To Tackle ASB

13 CPWs issued in a bid to tackle ASB in Peterborough city centre.

At the end of November, we updated you on the work that we have been doing to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and issues in the city centre at night, particularly the issuing of Community Protection Warnings (CPWs).

The warnings are issued to people who have been identified as being responsible for persistent aggressive, violent, or anti-social behaviour, and will ban them from entering the city centre between 8pm and 6am for three months. They can be issued in addition to community resolutions, cautions and charges.

Anyone found to breach the CPW will then be issued with a Community Protection Notice (CPN), which details action they are required to take. Failure to comply with the CPN is an offence and could lead to a criminal prosecution and conviction.

Throughout December and January, we have issued a total of 13 CPWs to people, including:

👮‍♂️ A man in his 20s after he assaulted door staff at O’Neills by punching them, and then went on to try to bite them. He was arrested and had proceeded to shout racial slurs at our officer. Investigations into the matter are ongoing

👮‍♂️ A man in his 20s was reported to have sexually assaulted a woman in the city centre. He was arrested for sexual assault and bailed until the end of the month.

👮‍♂️ Two teenage boys who were caught up with by officers after they took part in a mass fight on Broadway. Investigations are ongoing.

👮‍♂️ A delivery driver – a man in his 50s – was observed acting suspiciously. Our response officers spoke to him and found a small amount of MDMA. He has been issued a caution.

We will continue to identify those causing issues and hand out warnings where appropriate.

If you have any information or would like to report an incident, you can do so by calling 101 or online.

If a crime is in progress, or someone is in immediate danger, always call 999.

At Long Last It Is Coming – Not From MP Barclay.

For some 15 years I have lobbied MP Barclay over a deposit scheme for plastic/glass bottles, cans and Polystyrene – many of you would have seen my posts on this blog on many occasions…Barclays answer was ‘ It would be too costly to implementple amongst other reasons….but today I hear from a Labour Government….

Labour push forward plans for a scheme for shoppers to pay a deposit on plastic bottles and cans to reduce litter and pollution.

Daily Mail Today

Glass bottles are excluded from the scheme due to them making up a relatively low amount of litter – around three per cent – and recycling rates already being at high levels.

To be fair as I always am…The plans were originally put forward by the Tories under then environment secretary Michael Gove but were never enacted..

A plan to increase recycling of plastic bottles and drinks cans will help restore pride in Britain by reducing littering, ministers claim.

They say a deposit return scheme (DRS) – where a consumer pays a deposit on a drink but gets this refunded when they return the container- will mean cleaner streets.

Labour passed laws to begin the introduction of the scheme last week. After numerous set backs over the years, it is expected to start in October 2027.

We Streetpriders have collected tons, upon tons of cans plastic bottles and Polystyrene.
Now Chairman Eamonn Dorling seperates 1000’s of cans out of the litter collected….
and thats just us here in Whittlesey….
