On 22 August, a man killed a motorcyclist while high on drugs and driving a car he had stolen from a garage forecourt. Neville Smith was tailgating a car on Bretton Way, Peterborough, when he cut a corner to turn onto Deerleap Road. Sweeping across the carriageway, he struck a motorcyclist who was riding in the opposite direction. Members of an organised crime gang which committed more than 200 burglaries in an 11-month crime spree have been jailed for a total of 71 years. The gang, who raided homes and businesses across the region, including nearly 100 in Cambridgeshire, costing victims more than £2 million, were convicted earlier this year. An elderly woman was left for dead following an attack by a man she thought of as a friend. Stephen Leonard, 57, of St Michael’s Gate Peterborough, brutally stabbed Fay Mills, 60, leaving her with life changing injuries. Leonard was found guilty following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court. A sex offender breached the terms imposed on him by a court by forming a relationship with a woman and going on holiday with her and her children. Alfie Fisher, 54, admitted having been in relationships with two women, both of whom had children, therefore breaching notification requirements under the Sexual Offences Act 2003. A man who used an improvised recording device to film up skirts of women in Queensgate shopping centre, Peterborough has been jailed for 20 months. Peterborough resident Nigel Matt pleaded guilty to outraging public decency. Matt also faced further charges of voyeurism and taking and possessing indecent images of children for which he was also sentenced. A Peterborough drug dealer who used his profits to fund a ‘lavish lifestyle’ has been jailed. Abrahim Farooq, 25, was found with drugs worth more than £21,000 when officers raided his home in Redmile Walk, Welland, in February this year. At Peterborough Crown Court, he was sentenced to serve five years and three months in prison.
