Late today I received a call from Mr Alistair Hunt – Regional Manager @ Boots Pharmacy™ – He spent around 20 minutes with me, explaining primarily that these costs being introduced were largely (you guessed it) due to government cutbacks in payments made to chemists/pharmacies.
Therefor in Boots case – they are rolling out charges nationwide (inc Scotland & Wales).
We did engage in the risk factors to vulnerable/less well off patients, and he stated that the risk assessments had been carried out.
However – he also stated, that there was an element of discretion available to the local managers, who identify the groups I have mentioned previously.
Patients in Care Homes will still receive deliveries free of charge.
One of my elderly neighbours decided yesterday to change pharmacy.
(no influence by myself), and found the system/experience very quick, easy and efficient.
